Can anyone with the 70-200VRII do me a favor?
Take the lens out, don't mount it on a camera. Just take off the rear cap and "wiggle" or shake the lens back and forth and tell me if you hear a sound or feel something moving around.
Nikon claims this is just the "VR mechanism" moving and it's normal.
(Yep, finally a Nikon related post...)
When I shake it gently it quietly rattles in a couple of places.

No I don't got a Nikon :) but after finding out that the photog I most admire on this forum shoots with one I am dying to try one. It's about $285 to rent one from Lensrentals (plus you still have to rent the lens!) but I SOOO want to try it. My question is, what kind of software do you have to have to upload your pictures & can you get a trial version somewhere? Sorry if this is jacking the thread.

I copy and paste from cards to a folder using a card reader, and I process using Bridge. Same as with Canon.

To be honest the rattling does sound controlled like it is coming from the motor.

I have a question are the new nikkor weather sealed lenses the same as with canon that the seal has to be completed with a filter?
I was out in the snow playing with my son taking shots with the d3s and 35G and I let my wife take a couple of shots and she took a direct hit from a snowball from my son right at the front element!!
I took it inside and wiped it and turned it so no water would get in just in case.

I read somewhere that really huge threads start to place a strain on the server.
It does happen with vBulletin sometimes due to poorly designed SQL queries, but it's not as big of an issue as a lot of people make it out to be... I used to deal with queries that touched millions of rows at once without issue, and I really don't see why a join on three indexed tables that returns 10-50 rows and with index limitation matches even say 100k rows would be a problem, but then again, having seen the queries vB creates against those tables, I can't say I'm surprised that it does! ;)

Hey guys, I'm looking to get a new DSLR in April/May and I'm contemplating either a Canon 7d through the Canon Loyalty Program, or a Nikon D7000.
I'm looking on this site and comparing the features:
http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon_EOS_7D-vs-Nikon_D7000
So I'm leaning towards the D7000 now, but I'm looking for some people with experience with the D7000. For those of you that have one or have used one, what are your thoughts on it? Should I go with it over the 7d?
Thanks,
Coby
Also, could someone PM me a link to a good Nikon forum?

If you don't mind waiting I read nikon might be announcing a upgrade to the d300s which is the direct competition to the 7d.
The d7000 is the direct competition to the 60d.

Very true. I was actually surprised when i recieved my current issue of popular photography and they review both the 60D and D7000. From the raving i had read on this forum i thought for sure the D7000 would be the choice. However, Pop photo gave the edge to the 60D.
"Choosing an advanced DSLR is never easy. If you’re already a Canon shooter and wondering whether to upgrade to the 60D, it makes plenty of sense to do so. It surpasses the 50D in most areas, while adding video capture and an articulated screen. If you’re trying to choose between the 60D and the D7000, as we said in the Nikon’s test, we give the edge to Canon. It has higher resolution, one stop better noise control (and more resolving power to sacrifice if you opt for heavier noise reduction), and can focus in dimmer light than the Nikon. Case closed."

Also, I want to trade my D70s and D3100 bodies for a D7000. The 3100 is too basic (only one aperture/shutter wheel, no DC in, no remote trigger, no screw-type lens motor missing some video options, not intervalometer), and the 70s doesn't have video.

Since you are looking for feedback to see if you can improve, I would say that the composition could have been better as it's hard to know what the subject is. Is it the tree or the bridge?
1. If it's the tree , then it doesn't look that great positioned at almost the center. Probably shallower depth of field would have worked better. Or you would have filled the frame with it.
2. If it is the bridge, then it could have covered at least 66% of the frame (horizontally) with it. And like what was mentioned the tree doesn't add much to the picture.

I read in another website, that I can actually bring in my Sigma lenses myself (about a 45min drive from my house) and have them calibrate the lenses to my bodies on the spot. Well, it takes about an hour actually, but I might have to do this. I think my Sigma 85 has a tendency to back focus a little bit. I've heard this is a common issue. This guy took it to Sigma and it's spot on now, so I might have to do the same.

has any body heard or read anything about a successor to the D700? ive bee looking and reading online and cant really find anything viable im looking to get another body here in a few months and i know its gonna be a full frame camera but im curious if any one knows what the D800 (??) may have to offer im torn between a 5DmkII or the D700 everything about the D700 is appealing hands down but then got me thinking Canon is due to release a 5DmkIII soon and read there gonna go head to head with Nikon, so if the 5DmkIII will compete with the D800 what would it entail 51 af points, higher MP sensor? Im thinking canon has to revamp there AF system with the 7D having 19af points etc. thoughts?
The wife got a raise at work so with canon raising there prices I have to problem switching systems again (although im getting really comfortable with canon again) IF canon redoes there AF system on the 5D line will anyone give canon a second thought?

Anything you read on the next generation D700 is pure speculation. Some say no new cameras until 2012 while others say perhaps later this year. But in reality no one really knows.
That said, I think it's a decently safe bet to assume the following:
Same grip-less form as the D700.
> 12MP, perhaps somewhere between 16-21MP. Personally I hope around 16-18MP.
At least 8fps either with the grip or native.
Same 51 point AF system we see in the D700, unless they come out with a way beforehand which has a new and improved AF system. Personally, I feel they need to get those crosstype AF points spread out more.
< 100% VF.
ISO 200 to 12800 native, with L1, H1, H2, and H3
High ISO noise handling as good, if not better, than the D3s
Full 1080p video implementation.

are you looking to just get video out of it or higher resolution...those are the only 2 things i see changing really. The D700 seems so capable compared to the 5d and 5d mkII and not stepping into the 1D series. Im just lost in this hole ordeal to be honest

Not saying it's not capable but I would say the upgrade should be much more than you describe. With the new processor, new metering, better low light, more res, video....there are tons of upgrades over the D700. I expect it to bee a D7000 in a pro body and better in low light capabilities and higher dynamic range.

From what I have heard about the d700 replacement is maybe it will have the d3s sensor and ISO performance with the d7000 video so not a d800 but maybe d700s.
But in the same breath it's being said if it comes with these features there will be a prie increase $3000 body only?

If your going to sell now is the best time. You will max out the value and it will jump start that piggy bank for the successor. I think it's a good move just be willing to wait. It could come at any point this year. As long as you don't expect it soon then you should do well waiting.

Well, let's take a look at a couple of things. 5DMKII. Pretty awesome camera IMO. Personally, the issues with that camera are:
Weak AF system.
ISO banding.
Slow FPS
Build not quite up to par with the D700.So logically speaking, the 5DMKWhatever will be:
They MUST implement a better AF system. Perhaps something based on the 7D technology or a hybrid between the 7D and the 1 series.
ISO that matches the D3s or betters it. I mean, you have to assume that. I would say one stop improvement? Being that they improved on the banding with the 1DMKIV, you would have to assume that won't be an issue anymore.
> 21MP. Perhaps 24MP. I hope it's not anything over 30MP for your sake.
Not sure what they can do in terms of FPS because of the resolution. Can you imagine it blasting out 8fps @24~30+ MPs on a FF camera? I don't, but who knows? I would say anywhere in the 5-6FPS would be nice.
Great video features as usual.
Better sealing? Not sure. I think that's the least of the complaints the 5DMKII gets.

My guess would be that it will be close to $3k. Not sure if they would go over that threshold though. But still, you are looking at a $1k difference between what you have now and what they will release eventually.
If you don't need it, then sure, you can sell it and hang out a bit.

That friggin desert cost me friggin 16 friggin Euros. Friggin frig!!!
My wife wanted to go into this famous cafe in St. Mark's Square, so of course I couldn't say no...you know...because I don't want her kicking in my family jewels and everything.
Nice, fancy joint...and by that I mean STORE, thank you very much. Then I see the prices on the menu and damn near fainted. But it was already too late.
The dessert was DAMN good though. Overpriced? Yes. But DAMN good...you know...kinda like Nikon gear.;)
ROFL!!! You can tell everybody you had a $22.00 dessert! ;) That could buy two Lenspens...:p

Yes definitely I agree, I'm going to work on that
And I work at a restaurant where bills have come out to 7,000$ for a couple lol. Our desserts are also 15-20$ and they're so small! I would be so mad if i paid 20$ and got a small piece of tiramisu

Nick does NY have a Melting Pot? its a fondue restaurant that will cost a couple around 130 for a Cheese fondue, Raw protein with a Broth to cook it in, and chocolate fondue for desert....... to me not worth it but when i take the wife there i can expect something later so in that sense its worth it :) if you just want desert there its 30-40 bucks this is all in US dollars
