You can its an EF mount. If its an FD mount then no. Are they canon lenses?

No
What is the difference between the two mounts and will the old lens if incorrectly installed short out any electronics on the new camera?

Thanks.
I have wanted a dslr camera for several years and finally got one so I don't want to screw it up by trying to cheat the expense by using old equipment.

WHAT IS your "old SLR?"
The answer to that question is what will determine the answer to your question

Minolta MD lenses definitely will not mount on a Canon body without a lot of surgery to the lens.

Thank you very much.
Happy shooting to you and thanks for the help.

I was going to say, there's probably someone who makes an adapter ring, but it looks like no go.

About the only thing MD series lenses are good for without tearing them up is that you can use some of them for portrait, closeup, and macro
There ARE some (few) Minolta than can be modified to fit, not an easy task
I was in the same boat. When I bought my first Canon, an Xt/ 350D, my old Minolta gear became instantly obsolete

i have a md to canon adapter, has a lense in it, waste of time due to the loss of a stop and image degradion. got it from hong kong.
now the M42 thread lens with canon adapter work fine, as long as you don't mind all manual.
