his game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new editing tricks.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture, re-sized to exactly 1000 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being re-sized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 4 Days (96 hrs) and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #341.

This game ends January 31th at 10 pm MDT (GMT-7:00).

Opened in ACR, reduced exposure and increased recovery.
In CS4, duplicated BG, straightened, cloned out girl, new layer 50% grey, painted back more detail in the driver/passenger/wheels and chrome.

Before you say anything... I can see the flaws too. But I learned a lot by doing this.

Selected Car
Made a bright, blurred background layer with high contrast
Made a dark background layer from which I selected areas, with a feathered edge, and then partially erased.
Added an edge glow to the car (which didn't turn out well).

Promised myself I'd post the results, even with the defects, hoping for some tips and/or constructive criticism.

Thanks for letting me play!

Adjusted Recovery, Vibrance and Clarity in ACR.
Applied shadow/highlights.
Cloned out the girl.
Duplicate background and used "Apply Image" using the blue channel.
Increased contrast using a separate curve on each channel.
Boost color using LAB mode and increase contrast on A and B channels.
Sharpened using unsharp mask on L channel in LAB.

I might have forgotten some steps.

Thanks for playing everyone on what I thought was a challenging photo.
Short individual comments:

NigelD - great job all around and amazing the amount of detail you brought back in the buildings. Not a huge fan of where you cropped the rear bumper so close to the corner, though.
jb2u - I also quite like your edit and especially the extra added frame, but the buildings look a bit soft now and there is a little bit of missed cloning near the bottom left corner
cacaw - Even though you tried to downplay it, I think this is a nice edit. You really made the car stand out and it looks like something you might see on a ticket stub or back of a brochure.
sllo - You did a great job bringing detail back to the shadows, but perhaps just a little beyond natural.
surgeonhawkeye - really like the crop and you did a great job masking the car, but you forget to clone out the woman like every one else. Cool edit, but I gotta give the others bonus points for the cloning.

So hard choice and I hate being a judge, but I gotta give it to NigelD.
