Oulton Park in the NW of England today. The weather was horrible, overcast and by 5pm it was necessary to shoot at ISO800. Anyway, I'll start off with some humour and then some samples of today's racing.

This squirrel was determined to save his nuts:

Great Ken. LMAO over the squirrel series. Love the Formula Ford and what the exhaust heat does to the cars down the hill.

Isn't everybody ?. I think he may have developed a taste for wheel nuts. Talk about living dangerously :-). Superb shots.

Here are a couple more to finish off what wasn't a bad days photography.

A lot of Formula Fords headed by Peter Dempsey who won the day's trophy:

A local (to the circuit) F3:

There was a very nasty accident in one of the Formula Ford races that resulted in one of the drivers being taken to hospital. As I know him I am not posting the aftermath pictures until I get his OK.

I have tried motorsport, and done only marginally well, no problem making the main events look good but the lesser classes I have a hard time with.. I guess that is where real skill comes in, I rely on extrodinary contect to make the shot, a skilled photographer can make most any content look really compelling. I hope that came across right. Very nice stuff.... and yes - love the squirrel sequence.... Cheers.

Update on the Formula Ford incident. The driver, Chris Chisnall, is OK. He is such a nice guy and well liked, that a lot of us who know him were very concerned about his welfare. Apart from the Andrew Bentley shunt that I posted pictures of (had another mail from him by the way) I have never seen a Formula Ford so badly damaged. Chris hit the tyre wall at 100mph, and in any car that is bad. You could hear the thud 400 yards away.

I can't get emotional about such things as serious or fatal accidents in racing as I have a job to do, but I always think about how the pictures will be used once I have taken them.

Trust me, it can get very difficult trying to make some races look interesting. I get as much as I can in the first two or three laps before they get strung out, plus the background and angles are key to getting the right look.

The Formula Fords shot (car #7) is incredible. I love the effect from the exhaust.

Great shots as usual Ken, my favorites are #4 and the last one. The squirrel shots are just fun (assuming he didn't get hurt! Oh My!)

Ken, the second batch are wonderful as usual. I look forward to all your posts.
I am glad to hear that your friend Chris Chisnall is alright. Every time we lose a participant, be it driver, pit crew, marshal or photographer the whole of motor sport is diminished.
Keep up the good work.
