I did a search, but could not find anything about this. I'd like recommendations on a host for gallery space. I've been using pbase.com, which has nice gallery software, but access is sooo slow and editing a gallery takes forever.
Features I'd like to see are:
- T&C that don't rip off the copyright of images
- images not limited to "small" file sizes
- different options for image size viewing so that viewers have the chance to look at originals in all their glory :) if they want
- reasonable server performance
- doesn't have to be free (though free is good :) )
- not to fussed about a print service attached
Another option might be a my own web site. I don't do HTML (I suppose I could learn).
What do people think?

Roger

You mention hosting your own website. I chose this route, and have been reasonably happy with it, as it gives me ultimate control over content and presentation. My main aim was providing class material to my students, but after getting my digital camera, and the arrival of my daughter, it has become dominated by my photo galleries.
But I use Windows 2000 with IIS, and this has made me vulnerable to all those nasty viruses (Code Red and Nimda most recently) The Nimda virus crippled my system such that I had to reformat and reinstall the operating system (at great expense to the management please note!) This is the biggest "cost" of hosting your own site unless you are using more insulated systems (Unix, Linux, Mac, etc)
IIS sucks, but it's easy to use and works well--when it's working.

I use fototime (www.fototime.com), and am very happy with it. I can manage all of the albums in the software that runs on the PC, and then upload what I want when I want. I can change things around, and then change them back effortlessly.
It costs about 25 dollars a year for 250 meg, so not unreasonable.
What I would do (but haven't yet done), is host my own site for static and text content, and then use tags to reference images in the fototime site. This way, you get the speed of download of a major internet site, with the control of your own local (possibly slow) internet service provider. Further you don't need to worry about managing the specific images and the space issues that it brings.
Right now I just send people invitation URLs from the fototime site, and that seems to work well. Also, fototime has printing services, so you can refer folks to your invitations, and store up high-res images (even tif images), that they can use to order photo prints on-line, or download for printing to their own photo printer.

Photo.net is decent for this:

I host a lot of my images using my own homebrew photo album software for the web. It gives me total control but it's a lot more work.
