I'm looking to buy a used EOS D60 camera and have a few questions.

What are grey market camera's and is it bad to buy one? If so why?

Should I avoid buying the camera from another country? If so why?

What else should I be on the lookout for?

From what I've read on this forum, I wonder if you should be asking whether it might be better to buy a used D30 or D60.

Grey Market camera's a normally the exact same model as the U.S. version. The exception is you may not have a warranty on the camera. Also the parts that come with the camera such as the battery or charger is sold separately. Stick with U.S. versions.

I think it is much smarter to stick with the versions intended for the country where you live.

For example, if in the U.K., then buy the U.K. version unless you have excellent connections in a better country with a better version of product.

In general the cameras are all built in the same factories, such as Canon. But then they get distributed through different channels. Some get different language in the manuals, some get different (or no) accessories. Some get different warrantees. Just know what you are buying.

It all depends on the price difference. I bought mine in Singapore and saved US$ 500 compared to the UAE. Same with lenses. Bought 2 new L-lenses for the price of one. Just make sure what accesories are included. Manuals are most of the time in English.

But, if you're buying used, I can't see what difference Grey Market makes. Except you might negotiate a cheaper price. Though I also assume, if the product is newish, there might be some warranty left.

Hmmm

Looking at the profile of the first poster he is in the UK so US product woud be Grey Market to him !!!

I agree with Henk, look at the price.

I have bought many a Grey Item over the years, and as long as the source you buy from is good, then there should be no worrys.

2nd hand is 2nd hand...grey goods are normally new
