I am using a S 40 and have been shooting underwater for about six months now. I was wondering what are the best settings for U/W photography with this camera and with what format, RAW, jpg, etc? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Wherever you are, I hope you have good visibility under the water. :)

While under the water, I will:
1) Use high ISO liked 200,
2) shoot jpg,
3) large aperture liked F 3.0 and reasonable fast shutter speed liked 1/60 sec. I will use TV mode and set the shutter speed at 1/60 or Manual mode with F3.0 and 1/60.
4) shoot close with flash on "always" and don't expect the flash to reach too far. Under the influence of water, the flash may reach half of what is in the book. :(

Hope it helps.
