Could you please post the SF settings for some pictures if possible? I know you can set it between 0 and 2 and I would like to see the difference. If you have time and take a few shots of the same subject with and without SF that would be very helpful.
BTW I never seen seen anything close to your pictures with this lens when I checked sample pictures. Although it is an amazing lens but ultimately it is your clean style and talent that does the real magic. Really inspirational.

Thank you I did not see good examples also. It is a specific budgetary lens, but really sharp, but requires the special approach, as well as any other budgetary lens, it not 135 2.0 L, requires PP of treatment in most cases. I will load for you the examples of SF the same objects in 0, 1, 2 stages of softening, although I do not use SF, it not like me. It is a cheap analogue 135 2.0 L ( translate in online translator :o )

This cleared it up, thank you! Based on these samples I am really not sure about any usefulness of the SF. But for sure this is is a great fast 135mm lens I don't even think - based on all the pictures you posted - that the 135 f2L would be any better other than it is a little bit faster.

You are right. Many of the effect that were achieved with lenses and filters in '87 now just a few clicks away in PS.

I am sorry, but I do not own English, what to answer you on this question :( , i`m understand questions, but can answer only simple reports, it will be difficult with an on-line translator. I will say just process a photo in RAW, up levels and colors in Photoshop, yet add a sharpness if it is needed.

The Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 With Softfocus Lens is directly comparable to the Canon EF 135mm f/2.0 L USM Lens in focal length. But, they have many differences.
While the 135 L features a fast, accurate and silent USM, the Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 With Softfocus Lens uses older AFD (Arc Form Drive) technology. This AFD implementation is not loud or slow focusing for a non-USM lens, but not as fast or quiet as the more-modern USM lenses - and it does not provide FTM (Full Time Manual) focusing. Both lenses focus internally (do not change size) and have non-rotating front elements. The 135 SF lens also proved to be difficult to get accurate focus with. While it nailed autofocus on most of my close portrait shots, other subjects proved to be difficult for it.
The Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 With Softfocus Lens is not the sharpest lens - it is certainly not up to the extraordinary sharpness of the 135 L.
Both lenses exhibited slight light fall-off wide open on a full frame body (of course wide open is 1 stop wider on the 135 L). This issue is not unusual and quickly cleared up for both lenses when stopped down slightly. The 135 L has minor pincushion distortion while the 135 SF has moderate pincushion distortion (strong for a prime lens).
The Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 With Softfocus Lens has a 6-bladed aperture vs. the 8-blade aperture on the 135 L. Six blade non-round apertures will generally produce 6-sided out of focus highlights when stopped down.

CA (Chromatic Aberration) is relatively high on the Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 With Softfocus Lens compared to the 135 L.

Color and contrast are a little better on the 135 L as well. That said, the Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 With Softfocus Lens is not bad in these categories. Neither lens has a problem with flare.

Judging from these samples the 135 SF is not a bad alternative if you use it for portraits. If you are into sport then you might be better off saving for the 200 2.8 because of the fast AF and the longer reach.

i still havent developed into a specialty. i shoot it all. even if i do get the 200 now ill be getting one of the 135's eventually.

I have the 135 f2L and I am nowhere near to BlackRainbow's level but his pictures inspired me and now at least I have an idea "which way to go" :rolleyes:

The lens was first released back in late 1987 so it´s one of the oldest designs for the system.
This lens has been over shadowed by it's 135mm f2"L" brother and the other midtelephoto USM lenses. But for less money you can get the same quality of pictures. Highly recommended lens, especially if you're on a tight budget...

From what I can see it rivals the 135 L in terms of IQ. Half a stop slower? I could handle that.

It would just be another great tool to have in the camera bag. I'm watching a few on ebay as we speak!

i've gotta get one of these or the L version. i ended up picking up the 200 2.8L that i've been wanting and after shooting with it i love the quality but feel like 135mm would be the perfect focal distance for alot of the shots i do with the 200....

Thank you. I mainly take pictures at the end of day, 18:00-20:00, when sunlights is soft. Sometimes I use an external flash HSS mode )

That's been the case for me as well. I tried it a bit for some video, but I haven't really used beyond that. Even without SF, it's still a very handy, light little lens for longer portraits.
