Hi,

I want some of your opinions on this portrait. I know the background is overexposed, but I think it makes a nice effect; on the other hand it migh be just a bad photo...

The background being blown out looks ok, but I think the framing is a bit off since it cuts off the top of her head a bit too much. Also you've lost all the detail of her right ear. Did you shoot it in front of a window? It almost looks like her face was a bit underexposed and you had to correct it in Photoshop.

What camera did you use to take the image?

That is true, how could you tell?

blown out background is fine, but the composition is way to tight for me

its deff. not a bad photo! the thing i like about this is that its just one of those pictures that seems to really work in black and white. i enjoy the composition, gives the photo not so much of a staged feel. maybe if you shot it vertically youd be able to keep the close feel and get her head, if thats what your going for. great picture though, i really like it!

Because the image lacks detail around the mouth and eyes like it was dragged out of the shadows.

It's a good start, next time maybe crop just a wee bit less tight and lock the exposure off of her face. If you are shooting against a bright background and don't want it blown out, try using fill flash. :D

Keep shooting!

Thanks everybody for the replies.

I didn't crop the photo, so there is not much opportunity to fix the top of the head.

Thanks for the input.
