Broken 10D

Forgive me if this has already been asked, but I didn't see it. I just got my 10D today and it is broken (or seems like it). It was working fine, then I set a few of the custom functions to check them out, and now the "set" button is not working and the "trach" button seems to be acting like the zoom function buttons. I can not change any settings because the "set" button is totally non responsive. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how did you fix it?

Whatever the set button should work with menus, but I'd try removing all batteries including the back-up. Wait for a few minutes and everything should reset, then see what happens.

Just to make sure: did you set "on/off" switch for set button to "on" position?

Yes...I did make sure of that ;o)

Without actually reading Roger's suggestion, I tried that and it worked. Just leaving the camera sitting for 15 mintues with no batteries (inculding the clock backup) reset the camera and all is well.

I still would like to find out if this is a software bug however. I believe it to be linked to custom function #1.

O.K. Now it's back to this funky mode again. It was working great, I changed the focus mode to AI Focus and set CF4-1. Now all the buttons on the back seem to be mismapped...trash doesn't work (acts like zoom), set doesn't work. This is really crazy and wierd.

Are these absolutely the only changes you made? When I get my 10D back, I'll see what happens.

Yes. Now, here's where it gets wierd. I pressed the trash and menu buttons together, and the camera seemed to go back to normal. Then I accessed the reset function, reset the camera from the menu, and it seemed to be happe for about 5 minutes. Now it is in a state similar to the above, only now the jog dial on the back is totally non-functional.

This is a lemon and I'm sending it back. I'm not sure that this has anything to do with the custom functions anymore, rather a defective circuit in the jog dial/set button area. It just doesn't make any sense that the trash button would remap itself. Also, I noticed that when this state occurs, all of the autofocus points light up like you are in AF point selection mode...and they stay like that.
