Nice collection! Did that bald eagle just take a bath? It looks rather mangy, but I've read that they like to play in the water.

I don't know why he looks so ratty, Kristin, but we had a very warm day yesterday and all the ice and snow were melting, so I guess he was down in it all trying to find some food. Thanks for commenting! Here's another shot showing what was left of whatever he was working on. Not much left, so maybe that depressed him too ;)

Great work Ian and Brad.

Brad, Scissor Tails have been at the top of my wish list for quite a while. They're really beautiful birds. Are they common there, do you see them daily or weekly?

Thank you Steve, Your images are fantastic.
You should head to Texas in the summer. The Scissor-tails are really beautiful and are my favorite bird. They are very common. I see them daily when they have returned to Texas. They are always on wires of utility poles waiting to swoop down to hawk an insect. They return in the first week of April and stick around until the end of September. They tend to be more common though as you go further out towards central and west Texas.

Those Leaffooted bugs do get big (1-1.5 inches). They're kinda scary looking too.

You want common birds? That's all I have in my back yard.

A huge flock of Robins and Cedar Waxwings decended on a bush in the backyard to eat the berries. They all seemed to be traveling together, which seems strange.

Once they had left I put out some walnuts for the resident Scrub Jays. This one didn't seem to happy with the same old breakfast each morning. Maybe he wanted something more expensive.

I put out some seeds, which drew the local Finches and White Crowned Sparrows in for their breakfast.

While watching the Sparrows the resident Anna's Hummingbird came by to make sure no one was bothering 'HIS' feeder.

Most of these characters show up every day, along with tons of Lesser Goldfinches. There are so many finches I have given up taking pictures of them. Maybe they would go away if I didn't feed them.

Great birds, Jon! Especially neat shot of the Robin and Waxwing sharing a tree...definitely not your run of the mill capture :)

Re: Common Birds In Your Neck Of The Woods

Thanks Eric. The Waxwings wouldn't let me get very close, so the shot is a significant crop. Every time I would try to inch closer they would take off for 10-15 minutes.
