Model deep in thought
Hey People,
Have a look at this photo and tell me what you think it portrays? What's the feeling of the photo and how could it be improved? Cheers Jason http://www.coledigital.com/Distracted.JPG |
Re: Model deep in thought
For me it doesnt work - sorry.
For a pic in that pose her expression is wrong or for a pic of a girl in a thoughtful mood the pose is wrong. |
Re: Model deep in thought
I like the pose overall. Her eyes are saying "would you hurry up and shoot the damn thing". There doesn't seem to be the look of sincerity or deep thought in her eyes.
I like the lighting and the tones. Keep on a posting. |
Re: Model deep in thought
I think that DOF should be increased for this kind of shot. Also, brighter background would work better in my opinion.

Hi Jason
I didn't know you posted here. Welcome. People see things differently and some comments are rather harsh. If your subject likes the pic, then it is a success. Also good to get away from the subject staring into the lens.. The background here works very well and the lighting is good. Personally I find this image very pleasing. A lovely girl and you show her to good advantage in this photograph. Well done Kind regards hal |
Re: Model deep in thought
Hi Hal,
I only post here since you told me about this site. Your a wealth of knowledge and im honoured to know you. Its nice to have people commenting on my photos. It just goes to show that everyone has different ideas and dislikes. Cheers Jason |
Re: Model deep in thought
Sorry, but I think this shot fails to convey anything.
It doesn't jive. Loose the expression, or loose the starkness. |
Re: Model deep in thought
I think the lighting is great, the model and pose don't work for me though.

Re: Model deep in thought
People are right, it sure is a strange mix of pose and expression but I like it a lot.
At the end of the day, I spent more time looking at this picture, than any other I've looked at today, and that's got to be a good thing right? ..and i think the background works well. works for me anyway :-) Martin |
Re: Model deep in thought
ehh I don't think she's dressed up right for the scene. I don't know I like to see people in the enviroments that they're dressed for. If I was wearing a suit and tie and looking professional i'd like to have a business district blured behind me to sort of show the person I am.
The woman looks somewhat attractive to me, but wearing a bikini in the middle of darkness doesn't work for me :-/ |
Re: Model deep in thought
what I really think?
what I really, really think? really...? OK, you asked for it: I want your job :) |
Re: Model deep in thought
Hey Unstuck,
LOL Yeah I get that quiet a bit. I have about 40 assistants waiting to help... my wife is my assistant though. She fixes up all the hair and boobs and everything else. As a "wannabe" Professional photographer I dont think its appropraitte for me to be touching the models. Its better if a woman touches a woman. I sort of fell into this work. A good mate of mine has a modelling / promotional agency and he asked me to do some photos for him and his business partner. Since then I seem to be doing more and more work. They both say I have an eye for a good shot that doesnt make the girl look cheap. I actually work in I.T. but since that industry is slowly dieing I want to get out of I.T. and do photography full time. Cheers Jason P.S. Believe it or not its actually quiet hard work.. really! |
Re: Model deep in thought
to me she does not look to be that 'deep in thought'. and i don't know that 'being deep in thought' and in that pose and in the bikini go together. i also agree about increased dof to being everything into focus. lighting is great!

Re: Model deep in thought
jason,
I believe it is hard work. that's why i was a little confused at another thread (was it you) asking how to avoid being "excited" when shooting nudes. I think I would be so concerned about the settings and the composition that I would be oblivious to anything else. I'm in the biotech industry. Would love to be an aviation photographer (with a few models thrown in :) ) Had my hands on a 10D at bestbuy (of all places) today, but shyed away because of the price tag. Still have sweaty palms over it.... |
