This is my first attempt at a panarama. This was a series of 7 shots taken from a rooftop of the Washington DC/Arlington VA cityscape. I did not have a tripod with me so these were hand held

Here's my first panorama, taken from the Staten Island waterfront, looking across New York Harbor. It was already posted in this forum, so I'll link to it...

Risked life an limb for this panoramic, got away with it just before the guard came and interogated me. 14 frames for this one 17-40 F4L @17mm

Re: Post your best panorama

This is a three shot pano with the 40D and a Tokina 12-24 @ 12mm. Did the processing in CS3 and let it work. I did take care to use a level panning head, Manual Mode, and overlapped by the distance from the edge of the viewfinder to the first side focus mark. I have been experimenting with using Ultra Wide Angle lens for panos, as it goes a lot faster when you only need to stitch 3 shots for a 180, than 21. ;)

A couple from a recent backpacking trip in Yosemite.

This is from the middle of Glen Aulin looking north.

This is from the east end of Glen Aulin looking west. The three most prominent peaks can be seen in both pictures.

I was trying to figure out this quote and the photo would match it. It's funny because this valley is the poorer area.

I changed the caption to my work horse . I'm just a poor employee. If the owner of the company was in the pic, then it would be true. :)

HAHA, I'd love to have a red helicopter to fly to the top of a mountain and take a break in, I don't care who owned it. :)

Some amazing work in this thread. This one was during the Sawtooth Fire here in Southern California back in 2006. Total of 8 vertical shots taken 30 miles away from my home. The smoke column reached from Yucca Valley to Las Vegas on this day. A framed 12x36 just sold two weeks ago out of our local art gallery by a local resident affected by the fire. The Marine Base in 29 Palms can be seen to the right.

Did I ever tell you how envious I am off your shots from the mountain tops, especially the Wai'anae mountains? I strive to get to these elusive summits by hiking, and let me tell you, you've got it much easier.

Maybe I should price a trip with you....:D

Keep up the great work.

hehe, I think you mentioned it once or twice? Thanks man. Imagine getting there from leaving the airport to landing at that spot in 10 minutes. This is why customers pay for these kinds of services and moving hundreds to thousands of pounds of equipment up there. There is a huge fence line along the Waianae Ridgeline built by the government environmentalists to keep wild animals off extremely rare plants.

Thank you very much!!

I've been in that "work horse's" twin on Kauai. Doors off trip around the island. It was the best money I spent on that vacation.

The smell of smoke reached a lot further. I live in Wisconsin, right under the jet stream. One of the few spots in the country where the jet stream is almost always overhead, no matter where it goes in other places. And we could smell the smoke here for days on end.

Oh yeah, I probably have asked before. I remember seeing some of your pictures/panoramics from the East Ko'olau summits when I first signed up for the HNL Hale, and that really inspired me to get up to those secluded peaks. Of course, now I'm (re-)absorbed in school so I haven't really shot since I've been back in Hawai'i.

I have a 100% Hawai'ian friend visiting from Big Island and she's going take me up to the ancient sacrifical area near the peak by Kolekole Pass, so really looking forward to that (will be the first time up in the Wai'anaes). And maybe one day, I'll get up to the summit of the Wai'anaes (there apparently is a hike, but lots of permits to get).

Maybe one day I'll post some of my pictures too....

John

A lot of Great Pano's here!

Here is one of mine from this past summer down in Crater Lake, OR. It is a 2 image pano shot with my 40D and Tokina 12-24 @ 12mm on a tripod. I was at this spot 2 days earlier and could barely see the lake due to smoke from forest fires in northern California...I am glad I decided to run back up the hill one more time!

Re: Post your best panorama

Here is my contribution. I took this with a Kodak P&S while the camera was resting on the railing of the tour boat we were on. I took the pics of the island as we moved by it. It was a total of 5 images of varying color shades because it was cloudy right above us. I hand stitched then together in PS and then applied a Sepia tone. Added the location and had it printed. Final size was 14" x 48". I made a custom frame for it and gave it to our friends as a xmas gift last year. They hang it prowdly on their wall.

I made this Panorama well over a year ago. Used my old 350D and the Kit lens, which I no longer have. (either of them)

I will have my Sigma 17-70 soon, so I'll have to make some more.

My 1st attempt. I buggered up, because I forgot I had a polariser still on it, and (a) didn't adjust it or (b) just take it off!!

Hand held, and you can see all the stitching points - done with the software that comes with the camera, so very basic:

My first panorama, of the Manhattan Bridge from the Brooklyn side of New York. Three photos taken at Battery Park, used Photomerge on Photoshop.
Original photos:

I cloned the river because it was darker in the middle image, the sky was also cloned but it didn't turn out so good. The two people on the left were also cloned out. I'm pretty new to photoshop, and found this option pretty neat.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be nice, don't hold back either.

In CS3 and above ou can do an auto blend in photo merge. In CS2 i think you can do it as well, but its done after you do the merge.

You might also just want to add a layer mask to brighten the center image instead of cloning.

Its a great image sans the cloning.
