A couple of photos of a stilt (not sure of the species:oops: ) wading in the thermal waters at Wai-O-Tapu near Rotorua, New Zealand.

Your specimen is close to what we call Black-necked Stilt (Himantropus mexicanus) in North America. However, this one has different head feathers than the North American one, so I don't know.

Had a browse around the net and think I've identified it as a Pied Stilt (which is a subspecies of the Black-winged Stilt). |
