okay - sounds like the card you need to be working on, it the one that doesn't show bird photos when you put it in the camera. What recovery software have you tried?

thanks - it's often hard to tell how much of the pics are actually covered by the focus sensor & a lot of folks assume it's exactly the same size as the red box (which it isn't)

You might find the area of the focus sensor actually goes onto the drive & picks up the contrast line in the pavers - I'd be curious to see what results you get if you put your focus point smack in...

the only thing I have in common with your list of potential hardware is the 100-400mm, I have tried it with the Canon 1.4x TC and a 1D3, and don't think it has a lot of potential with TC's at all......
