Re: What is your favorite photography magazine?

Why start a new thread when there's one just sitting there with exactly the question I was searching for? :)

Re: Highest profile magazines for landscape photography?

If you were responding to my post it was Landscape Photography Magazine (http://landscapephotographymagazine.com/) not On Landscape, that I was recommending.

Re: Best tool to calibrate monitor - Spyder4 or Xrite?

UPDATE: I read some more sources and went for the X-Rite i1 Display Pro. It does a good job with both monitors although the older U2411 does not support the automatic mode and I have to adjust RGB...

Re: What is your favorite photography magazine?

For landscape photography it's got to be Landscape Photography Magazine (http://landscapephotographymagazine.com/).

Re: Highest profile magazines for landscape photography?

Landscape Photography Magazine (http://landscapephotographymagazine.com/)
It's online only ... but that is the future. The paper magazines are losing subscribers year on year.

Re: Best tool to calibrate monitor - Spyder4 or Xrite?

I have used a Spyder 2Pro for years with various displays including two Dell Ultrasharp monitors on the same PC running Vista. Now that PC needs replaced and my new one has just arrived - Windows 7...

Re: Which Lee bellows hood?

The hood is a separate item. It has two filter slots built into it and clips directly onto the adaptor ring that you screw onto the lens. Adding or removing filters has no effect on vignetting as...

Re: Travel lens for the 5D Mark III?

The 24-105 is so good and so versatile with its >4x zoom range. I loved it on my 5D then on my 5D2 and even more on the 5D3.

Re: Primes for Crop?

My most used primes on a crop were the Canon 28 f1.8 and 85 f1.8. On FF it is 50 f1.4 and 135 f2.

Re: Concert Lens choices

The 70-200 f4 is too obvious and IMO too slow. IS doesn't help much, as the shutter speed limit is dictated by subject movement, not camera shake.

Go for the 85 f1.8

Re: Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 Pancake

For UK members - he already exists, his name is Kerso and he is legit and totally trustworthy. His UK prices are around 20% less than anywhere else. Check him out.

Re: If you currently have the 3 prime f1.8s; 28mm, 50mm and 85mm...

I have both the 24 TSE (Mark 1) and the 45 TSE. I shoot mainly landscapes and use the 45 much more. When funds allow I'm going to upgrade the 24 to the Mark 2 version.

Re: If you currently have the 3 prime f1.8s; 28mm, 50mm and 85mm...

I have the 28f1.8, the 50f1.4 and the 85f1.8. All have their strengths but the 85f1.8 is the most impressive for what I use it for - fast shooting in low light. It focuses quickly and is sharp from...

Re: Buyer's remorse maybe...5d2 to 60d

I still haven't found a camera I like USING better than my old 350D. But when I download the images it's always the 5d2 ones that stand out.

Re: Choosing one prime for full frame, would you get an 85L II?

Very different style that, perfectly valid but certainly not candid. Also rather unflattering for portraits surely?

Re: Choosing one prime for full frame, would you get an 85L II?

"street, portraits, and everyday going out" says 135mm to me, most especially if you want to shoot candidly. My favourite setup is an 85 f1.8 on a cropper (equivalent to 135) as it is small and...

Re: Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM

I agree. This is not any filter vignetting that I have ever seen.

Here is a shot to show the vignetting that I DID get with a standard UV filter on my 10-22. Only the corners were affected and...

Re: Upgrade to 7D or wait for 5Dm3?

You will see much more difference in your shots by changing lens than changing body. Even that 50 f1.4 will give you a noticeable improvement over the kit lens at 50mm. Spend your money on that...

Re: Landscape on a 70-200mm

I never go on a landscape shoot without a wide angle AND a telephoto lens. Some of my most successful landscape images were taken with a 100-400!

Re: How do wedding photogs do it?

On-camera flash works well for fill-in lighting, but looks poor when the flash is the main light source.

Re: What's a good lense to buy?

The lenses with maximum apertures of f2.8 or better. Examples include zooms like the Canon 70-200 f2.8 and primes like the 200 f2.8, 300 f2.8 and 400 f2.8. Prices start from around $1500 and range up...

Re: What's a good lense to buy?

In bright light it will be great. In dark conditions you may be disappointed. You need to spend a lot of money to get a lens that will give you sharp images of distant fast moving subjects in low...

Re: -=1D Mk II and Mk IIn Owners Unite!

The only Canon non-1 series body that can compete with the 1DMk2 for AF and frame rate is the 7D, which would cost a lot more. All the others are inferior for those two things. You will not be...

Re: Canon 7D + Canon 135mm L?

It gives the equivalent field of view of a 216mm lens on full frame. Good for outdoor candids but very tight framing indoors.
