Re: Auto Focus Light

Are you absolutely certain?

Are you using the "Green Box" exposure mode? If so, that overrides AF settings, too... most likely putting the camera into AI Focus, which in turn will either choose One...

Re: A little HELP here...?

Have the camera and batteries been sitting unused for a while? If so, you might run it through a half dozen or more drain/charge cycles... the battery may come back to life. I've had older batteries...

Re: 100mm macro any tips

If it's one of the Canon 100mm macro lenses, IMO the separately sold tripod mounting ring is an essential accessory (if the Canon OEM t'pod ring causes sticker shock, there are 3rd party clones that...

Re: another long zoom lens query

I shoot a lot of sports with a pair of 7Ds, usually 70-200mm on one, 300mm on the other. On rare occasion, I'll use a 1.4X on the 300mm. Can't imagine needing longer than that. More often, I'm using...

Re: Help! 60D won't stop shooting

One possibility... it sounds as if the shutter release button might be stuck.

I don't know about 60D, but this has been a common problem on 50D, 40D, 30D, etc. The problem is finger oils and dust...

Re: To get, or not to get the 135 f2.0

I use 70-200/4L IS and 70-200/2.8L IS (original version), as well as the 135/2L.

I considered the 135L a "must have" when I finally got my full frame camera a few years ago... ordered both the...

Re: to whoever says, that olde 7d ain't good....

He looks kinda grumpy... or maybe constipated. ;)

Actually... nice shot!

There has been speculation and conspiracy theorizing that Canon might build something into their cameras to be able to...

Re: 7D2 noise question

3. The single, most common mistake (IMO)... Stop evaluating your images at 100%! On most modern monitors, assuming it's set to the native resolution, with a 7D's 18MP file that's like viewing a 5...

Re: Suggestions for a backup - $1k and crop sensor?

You've apparently never shot a busy equestrian event. I regularly shoot between 3500 and 4500 a day at dressage shows (more than at other types of horse shows) and I try to keep it to a minimum....

Re: 70D focus issues

For BIF?

Well, there's your problem. With any moving subject you must use AI Servo.

One Shot is only for stationary subjects. It achieves focus, then stops ("locks"). If the subject (and/or the...

Re: Lightroom 4... and now 5... hanging up

UPDATE: I finally got LR4 to save a backup and to optimize... by doing the operations separately.

I'm now trying to get LR5 to open the same catalog and it appears to be hanging, but I might just...

Lightroom 4... and now 5... hanging up

Hi,

I've been using LR since the first version without many issues until recently.

Now when I exit LR, I get the usual dialog box asking if I want to backup/optimize the catalog. About once a...

Re: which lens to buy 28MM/F1.8 or 50MM/F1.8

The Canon 28/1.8 is a great "standard" lens on any of the crop sensor DSLRs. It has very good image quality (especially on a crop camera) and is a fast focusing USM focus drive lens, plus is quite...

Re: Jump to 6D from 20D....?

Sounds like 6D or 5DIII would be ideal for your purposes.

6D has AF system that's actually similar to your 20D's. 6D has eleven AF points (instead of 9). But, like the 20D, on 6D only the center...

Re: 300 f/2.8L filter holder problem

Okay, that's helpful.

Now you can see how that clip works (it's different on the later lenses, but the same basic idea).

OP, your retainer looks tweaked a bit. You should be able to gently bend...

Re: Canon 200 2.0 Mount Issues?

What utter, elitist BS! (Or perhaps it's a really convoluted justification to convince the spouse one must spend $5000 on a camera body, though I doubt someone who has spent more than that on a lens...

Re: Is this a dumb all prime setup?

Unless you really, really, really want the 400/2.8 for some reason, you could just use a 1.4X on 120-300/2.8 with very good results. That lens works very well with a 2X too, though there's a bit more...

Re: Close up/macro lens for jewellery

Gotta agree... for jewelry you can and should be using a tripod. IS, which is of minimal help at high magnifications anyway, isn't needed.

Note: Canon's Hybrid-IS on the 100L macro was especially...

Re: Extender options

I would not recommend a 2X on your 70-200/2.8, even though it will still support auto focus. Unfortunately, there is just too much loss of image quality using the stronger teleconverter on that zoom...

Re: surrounded by moving subjects: S.shot or AI servo?

DOF is related to focal length, distance from the subject, and the lens aperture being used. It's generally unrelated to focus, but closely related to ISO and shutter speed choices.

I agree about...

Re: Have dilemma 5D Mark II sell Keep 6D Get 5D Mark III or 7 D M2

Huh?

There are two versions of the 70-200/4L.... the non-IS and the IS. Not "original" and "newer version". Both are currently in production. As are the 70-200/2.8 non IS and the 70-200/2.8 IS Mark...

Re: Choosing a FF, older FF bodies compared to current Rebel Bodies

Re: Canon 400m f2.8L and sport photography

Looking at your kit...

Do yourself a BIG favor and buy a 7D or 7D Mark II... then get a 300/4L IS to use upon it.

Neither 5Dc or 5DII are very good at sports photography. Their focus system is...

Re: Macro lenses for a 500 budget?

As a first macro lens I'd recommend you get something in the 90mm to 105mm focal length range, especially since you will be using it on a crop sensor camera. This will give you reasonably good...

Re: Considering a 135mm 2.0 - any thoughts

On full frame camera I consider the 135/2L to be an essential portrait lens. After happily shooting for years with only crop cameras and without the 135L in my kit, it was the one "must have" lens...
