Re: What camera is being used here? Everyone I've asked says something different.

Who cares?! I wasn't looking at the guy or his camera! :D

Okay, actually I did... I found it interesting that I only saw two instances where he used the camera in portrait orientation.... 90% of...

Re: Thinking of Upgrading ... Opinions

Seriously consider the 70D upgrade.... you should be able to get acceptible images at least one stop higher ISO than you use right now on your 50D. BTW, 50D is a fine camera, I'm not knocking it (and...

Re: 5D3 cropped to 7D sensor size???

Another way of calculating it....

24mm x 36mm = 864 square mm

15mm x 22mm = 330 square mm

So a crop sensor camera's image area is approx. 38% of that of a full frame sensor camera's (330 / 864 =...

Re: Crop Sensor Portrait

On a crop sensor camera, my main portrait lenses are:

50/1.4 and 85/1.8 primes, 24-70/2.8 zoom.

I am currently experimenting with a Tamron SP 60mm f2 macro lens, too. (I'll use it when I am not...

Re: 17-40, is that ok?

Do that.

There are just too many possible variables, to rely upon someone else's shots made with a particular lens. Their skill level all the way from selecting a subject and setting up through...

Re: 7DII delay reported

Their rumor-based camera specs really don't show very much change from the current 7D.

The main diffs...

- Different sensor (the 20MP ala 70D... no surprise there)
- "Touch screen"... well, maybe,...

Re: 5d2 or 70d? what would you choose?

For action/sports shots with the kids, the 70D is a better choice. It's AF system, frame rate, and the "extra reach" of a crop camera are better for that purpose.

The 70D has a 19 point AF system,...

Re: 5DIII Question for use in Manual Mode...

The feature you are asking about is called Auto ISO.

If you have Auto ISO on, you aren't in actually a manual exposure mode. You are using yet another form of auto exposure (the others being Av,...

Re: Turning camera power off when removing CF or SD card

I never turn the camera off to change cards.... and sometimes I do a dozen or more card changes in a day's shoot.

In fact I rarely turn the camera off, mostly only do so to make the camera go into...

Re: Camera Choice - FF for wildlife and landscape

Certainly you can shoot wildlife with FF... a 5DIII would be my choice, for it's focus system. However, you will need bigger, heavier, much more expensive lenses and a tripod to have enough "reach"...

Re: Any new Canon UWA zoom coming out?

Just get a 14mm, for Pete's sake! The 14L II is silly expensive. So is the Zeiss 15mm ZE. There's the original 14L, not quite as expensive used.

And, of course, there's the fully manual...

Re: 30D with 28-135 lens

Try shooting without the UV filter. If you didn't get it with the camera and lens, get the lens hood.

Dust and dirt on the filter (or directly on the lens elements or inside the lens) won't show...

Re: Help with importing raw files

You don't need any software to move (actually copy) your RAW files to your computer.

First, get a card reader and use that, instead of plugging the camera in. A card reader will be faster and more...

Re: Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 II Broken Red Ring

This was a common problem on the 24-105.... It's the first I've heard of it with the 24-70 Mark II.

If you send the lens directly to Canon yourself, I bet they'd fix it and have it back to you in a...

Re: Worth "Upgrading" from a T4i?

For your purposes, a 70D seems ideal. Improved autofocus in AI Servo would help with those action shots you are struggling to get now. (7D is even better for serious action shooters, but may be...

Re: 50mm 1.4 auto focus nightmare

Definitely clean the lens-to-camera contacts. Carefully use a clean rag, lightly dampened with a few drops of isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. While doing this, also check the corresponding spring loaded...

Re: My 30D Menu button is a focus button

Yeah, try the reboot procedure...

And, if you can, try downloading and reinstalling the firmware, too. You'll need to get into the menu to do that.

I'm a bit skeptical either will help. But, what...

Re: 6D DOA?

A DOA camera is pretty rare.

It's usually the simplest thing, such as a battery that didn't get charged for some reason.

What does the charger do when you have the battery in it?

There's a...

That's an easy fix!

It's a problem common to all the xxD models and usually just dirty from finger oils, dust, etc.

You could take it to just about any independent repairer and they could...

Re: Anyone ever had this kind of lens shade?

Built in hoods rotate to lock and unlock in place. That would be a problem with a tulip hood on shorter focal lengths, since it has to be precisely positioned to avoid vignetting issues.

A bayonet...

Re: Urgent! We need a nickname for the 200-400mm

Good stuff! Keep it coming!

"The Second Mortgage Zoom" and "The Wife-is-gonna-kill-me zoom" are other possibilities, but aren't much easier than "200-400/4L IS 1.4X".

Re: What would you pair...

Most of my portraiture with FF camera is done with 85/1.8 or 135/2L. The 100/2 would be a nice compromise, too. There is also a Canon 135/2.8 Soft Focus, especially for portraits.

I have 100/2.8...
