Re: Original Rebel (300D) Shutter Blade Sticking

What I expected. Thanks guys. I've had shutters fail on 35mm cameras, but not quite in the same way. Mechanically the shutter is still working fine. It's just such a tiny part of the whole machine...

Original Rebel (300D) Shutter Blade Sticking

I have a friend who purchased an original rebel and it took a few shots, but then started giving Err99. I took a look at it, and the top shutter blade was stuck out just enough to cause the rest of...

Re: PS help Proposal Pic

About a minute with the sliders in ACR (same in Lightroom 4), and a quick gradient in the same tool. Would be exponentially better with an original file.

Re: 50mm fixed question

The 1.4 is pretty much silent (it's not the best USM motor ever made, but I've never noticed hearing it like I do my 1.8). The noise doesn't bother me on the 1.8, but it's there, and I can see how it...

Re: 50mm fixed question

Exactly. The more you pay the better the lens. I personally think the extra couple hundred is completely worth the 1.4 over the 1.8. Aside from build quality, the 8 blade aperture of the 1.4 is...

Re: Filters?

So you're aware, a CPL only fully works on non-metallic objects (such as glass and water). The way light bounces off metal (rather than spreads through it on glass and water) tends to be glare rather...

Re: Testing lighting with my fur kid.

Yes they do. I'm attributing the out of focus to the camera's inability to find focus on the eye of an otherwise black dog. If anyone has tips on how to overcome this I would love to hear them.

Re: "professional profile" shots / headshots

If you're aware of the rule of thirds, it also works well for posing, especially with women. Hips turned a third of the way, torso turned a third the opposite way, and head turned either similarly...

Re: CC and advice for a portrait edit.

Very much agreed. My personal favorite is Nik Sharpener, but I've been a big fan of the Nik suite for years (couldn't live without silver efex).

Re: Trying out some portraits

My biggest complaint with these "portraits" are that they weren't taken in portrait orientation. Turn your camera vertically (better yet, get a grip for your camera so you have a shutter release in...

Re: CC and advice for a portrait edit.

What the sharpen slider does is look for pixels near each other that are very similar and combine them so there's less contrast. It makes for "harder" edges; edges that rather than gradually bleeding...

Testing lighting with my fur kid.

Have a shoot tomorrow and borrowed my best friend to test my lighting setup. He doesn't seem too thrilled about it, but my portable lighting setup still seems to be working fine.

Re: Sigma 24-60mm F2.8 EX DG

Wow, I was asking $270 on the forums here and got $250 after 3 days. Well done.

Re: How do I redusce the file size?

Get a large flash drive and cut out the email completely. That's what I do.

Re: A true upgrade to the 50D?

Live view and a compact mirror achieve almost the same thing without me having to "upgrade" to a plastic body.

Re: A true upgrade to the 50D?

Actually Veemac, that does make me feel a little better. I'm not alone in being happy with a body even though I'm an upgrade geek. It's like I WANT to want something new, I just don't see anything...

Re: A true upgrade to the 50D?

I really appreciate all the feedback. I'm thinking 1Ds or 5DII is the way to go, but fingers crossed, my girlfriend and I have found a place we may be able to pay cash for, so a little more saving...

Re: RF-602's triggering flash, and shutter, but no light...

Aaaahh. That makes sense. Thank you so much. Gonna try that in the morning. I have the equipment, so if it's just a matter of changing channels, I'm all set. Thanks so much guys.

Re: RF-602's triggering flash, and shutter, but no light...

Ha! That would be a great beginning to a LightRules thread, but no, cap is off.

So dedsen, you're saying I need two separate triggers? I have them, but how would I sync them together so that the...

RF-602's triggering flash, and shutter, but no light...

I've done this in the past where I would use my RF602's as both a remote shutter release and also a trigger for my flashes at the same time, and the pictures turned out fine.

However, today I try...

Re: A true upgrade to the 50D?

Hmm, I hadn't considered the 1DsII. And I suppose a 5D classic would be okay, but there are times, especially with macro, that I would miss live view.

I guess my mindset has been to replace my 50D...

Re: Nik Software Bundle. Is Everything Good?

For those that use smart objects (which usually involves creating a composite image when it comes to photos) this can be seriously valuable. If you don't use them though and are really only tweaking...

Re: A true upgrade to the 50D?

Fair point. Portraits, infant photography (so that includes macro to a degree), and the occasional wedding at this point. It's more of a paid hobby than a business these days. Not a lot of...

Re: Camera back pack that doesnt scream rob me?

This, but another name for me personally as I tend to go on 12+ hour treks that leave me needing something else... Water. Which means Camelbak.

I can pack to the point of overkill in my Blowfish,...

A true upgrade to the 50D?

So I have a bit of an itch for an upgrade, but when the 60D offered me video and a swivel screen, but nothing more, and the 7D offered me video and a seemingly perplexing autofocus system, and...

Re: Help with this portrait, please

This. I've had more than one occasion where I've had to tell seasoned photographers where to aim their bounce in small places. Behind the shoulder and turn down the power is the answer.

However, am...

Re: Photoshop purchase

As far as I know it's the same full edition. I think Adobe realizes that there simply aren't enough corporate clients willing to pay full price to keep them running. In the same turn, they realize...

Re: Nik Software Bundle. Is Everything Good?

I'm glad I got the whole package, and when I bought it a few years ago, Lightroom had nowhere near the quality of noise reduction it does today, so I found myself using Dfine for all of my noise...

Re: Nice Blurb about not showing all the pics....

Did people ever put EVERY single frame they took from a roll of film into a photo album? Of course not. Same concept. It's that simple.
