Re: Finally Canon refurb has what i want!

Yeah, you gotta be quick! They typically only have a few at a time and they sell out fast.

Re: Missing Focus with 24-70 2.8 ii

Since it's a multi-coated Heliopan, you're probably right.

But... filter serves no real purpose and it's dead simple to try a series of shots without it and see if that makes any noticeable...

Re: Missing Focus with 24-70 2.8 ii

I don't know if the 24-70 II is a parfocal or varifocal lens... I would imagine it's parfocal, which means it is supposed to maintain focus when you change the focal length with the zoom.

However,...

Re: go for 100 2.8L ???

I have and use the non-IS/L version and don't plan to "upgrade" any time soon.

The two Canon 100mm macro lenses remain my top choices for one key reason... they both can optionally be fitted with a...

Re: 16-35 vs. 17-55

The IQ and AF performance of the 17-55/2.8 IS is well documented and quite good. I would get it for the extra stop of light (and better AF performance on any Canon camera that has enhanced AF points...

Re: Telephoto help

I use both 500/4 IS and 300/2.8 IS on both crop (7D) and full frame (5DII) cameras.

I would recommend you consider the EF 300/4L IS. I use it too, especially for handheld shooting and whenever I...

Re: Hard time focusing EF_S 10-22 mm lens

Why in the world are you "normally" manually focusing?

I've been shooting for 30+ years, have used a wide variety of cameras and now use modern DSLRs with AF. I was quite good with manual focus......

Re: 300 f/2.8L filter holder problem

Is that the earlier, pre-IS 300/2.8? (I have the IS lens, which uses different filter arrangement.)

I am not certain, but that looks like it might be the mask that clips over the gel type filter in...

Re: just purchased a 5D MK3 , what lenses?

For weddings/churches...

First get 24-70/2.8. I'm not familiar with the Tamron or Sigma, but if you don't mind buying used, the original Canon 24-70/2.8 is still quite good (and considerably more...

Re: Advice needed on UWA

The Canon EF-S 10-22mm is one of the sharpest UWA lenses corner to corner. You are going to have a hard time finding anything much sharper.

Do you have a "protection" filter on the 10-22mm? If so,...

Re: 1 vs 2 stop ND filter

Do the math...

What shutter speed do you want to use? The fastest possible might be dictated by the flash you are using. 6D's portable flash x-synch speed is 1/180. If using monolights or portable...

Re: 7DII and 7D - High ISO and AA filter

There are some sample images from 7DII at http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM that can be compared alongside 7D images of the same test subjects. To me the high ISOs look pretty...

Re: The ultimate noise reduction tip makes all cameras look amazing!

The beauty of prints.... one key reason why they appear more noise free... is because you can't pixel peep a print!

Re: Does anyone here use all points auto focus?

I use Single Point most of the time (currently with a pair of 7Ds and a 5D Mark II... but the same in the past primarily with 50D, 30D, 10D, EOS-3 and Elan 7E).

I will occasionally use All...

Re: Equine/canine event photography - lens recommendations

The majority of the time I shoot with a pair of 7Ds... with a 70-200 on one and a 300mm on the other. When shooting dressage, it's not possible to move around...

Re: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM Lens

All five of the Canon 70-200s are top notch, tough, workhorse lenses.

The 70-200/2.8 IS Mark II is tops... fast and accurate focus, very sharp, 4 stop IS.

The 70-200/4 IS is the next sharpest......

Re: Does lens age matter?

It depends upon the lens... some lenses have seen "silent upgrades" over the years. Others haven't.

AFAIK, the 70-200/4L selling new today is identical to what has been sold since it was introduced...

Re: Macro Lens

Keep in mind that the Canon 100L's IS is a hybrid type, specially developed for macro use.

Canon themselves don't claim that the 100L's IS is worth more than approx. 1 stop assistance at...

Re: what cable shutter release i need for canon 5d mk3

Yes, RS-80N3 will work.

You also can use TC-80N3...

This can simply be used as a remote switch... but also can act as a self-timer delay, an intervalometer (time lapse photography), and for time...

Re: Canon officially announces the 7D Mark II

No... read it more carefully. What it says is that the original LP-E6 will work in the 7DII and new BG-E16 grip.... I.e., that the camera and grip are backward compatible. It doesn't say the new...

Re: Canon officially announces the 7D Mark II

Like Canon's other more pro-oriented cameras, it will use a separate WFT module that gives about 10X the range and better performance than built-in WiFi.

Camera also would need to be more plasticky...

Re: why is Canon considered to have bad dynamic range?

This is correct.

It's not that Canon is "bad"... It's that some other manufacturers have tweaked their sensors, processors and software algorithms to be up to approx. 2 stops bit better at...

Re: Canon 60D focusing issue- is it me or the camera?

I agree that some of the problem is using f1.8... stop down a bit for better results.

But I think more of an issue is the lens itself. First, the EF 50/1.8 is simply not at it's sharpest wide...

Re: Will 24mm be wide enough

That will be a good solution.

I was going to recommend the EF 20/2.8 USM... it's a good lens and uses 72mm filters. I wouldn't be without mine, 24mm often just isn't wide enough.
