Re: Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L USM - The Keg (2)

Dang ... I missed focus, but still like it. Found that my 85 seems to struggle in the redwoods on auto-focus in darker areas, but pretty good on a closer subject there. Image was...

Did you make the trip already?

If so, did you like one location best?

Re: (John) Muir Woods National Monument

Amazing how broad the range of Trillium flower stretches. Like little floral lights in springtime.

Re: Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM (Thread 2)

Not the best lighting ... but kept this in the bag too long ... time to make this lens a workhorse again.

Re: Kate & Michael - Engagement

LOL

That's my son's and bride-to-be's names too. Saw the title and thought "I don't recall posting" from their engagement.

Nice ... thanks for sharing.

Re: Sexy Wedding Day Portraits (critique welcome)

Is that a flash reflection between their faces in the last one, and was that intentional?

Nice looking photos. Look wonderful.

Re: Melkor ... 2nd largest Coast Redwood

For years it was just men I photographed next to redwoods, and eventually tried a female model, starting with dresses. Then I realized that women are smaller than men on-average and make the trees...

Re: Rate the Photo Above You

That's about as good as I'd expect. So I could go 10/10 on that one. It's also got the accessory, as I mentioned in a recent reply the past couple days. seems to make a big...

Re: Rate the Photo Above You

Man ... haven't been in this thread for ages ... time to return.

So 8.75 / 10

It's not my taste in photos, but it's really darn good. It takes me immediately to thinking Norman Rockwell artwork....

Re: Sigma 18-35mm as backup to Canon 85mm 1.2 ??

Thanks for the feedback.

I ended up buying a new Tamron 24-70mm SP VC ..

What I read in reviews indicated it's as good as Canon's 1st version and beneath Canon's Mk II but not near as much...

Re: Sigma 18-35mm as backup to Canon 85mm 1.2 ??

Think I'm leaning 24-70 more now, as it would work with both bodies, and although not a 1.8 ... the 2.8 is pretty decent.

Re: Sigma 18-35mm as backup to Canon 85mm 1.2 ??

This lens change or idea is in relation to portraits in the redwoods.

Not a lot of light.

The 85mm is fast. If it went defective, or the full frame I use it on, I'm looking for an optional lens...

Sigma 18-35mm as backup to Canon 85mm 1.2 ??

Want to run an idea past you folks.

I shoot a lot in redwoods, where there's so much fern and logs, moving back and forth is often not possible. I bought a 50mm 1.2 (60D crop) as backup to my 85mm...

It is a beautiful sight. Thanks.

Just got canvas print of the photo earlier today, and it came out better than expected. Was concerned whether too much detail would be lost. My first experiment with...

Re: Smith River Forks. No Dam. Pines meet Redwoods

The file I uploaded for a test print last night was just a tad less saturated, and brighter, than this here.

Re: Redwoods // World's 8th largest tree

Re: Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L USM - The Keg (2)

Like the natural light feel, whether that's what you stuck with or not.

The eyes of the 2nd photo seem as if maybe a reflector was used. Either way, the soft light in all of them is very nice.

Re: Redwoods // World's 8th largest tree

She wore jeans and boots going in there. It was a combination of hiking and bushwhacking to reach the tree. Think she's barefoot in the previous photo with the dress.

This shot shows her attire for...

Re: Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L USM - The Keg (2)

This dog in the redwoods was so fricken quick...

Re: 50mm 1.2 focus off 10ft, and on-the-money. Had similar?

Interesting feedback so far.

Maybe that's why the camera shop guy said issues like I'm experiencing are more common than I might realize. Although he implied hope when he suggested sending the lens...
