Re: Canon 500 F/4 L IS + extenders?

Seriously, you won't hand hold the 500/4 for more than a few minutes... You need at least a heavy duty monopod, but for wildlife shooting would be better off with a rock solid tripod.

I mostly use...

Re: Anybody uses Zeiss lens cleaning wipes?

Quality multi-coated filters are coated on both sides.

I've used those wipes, but they end up being rather expensive. And, as someone noted, they tend to leave a bit of a haze that you have to...

Re: effective focal length on EF-S lenses

Hi Kevin,

You have 30D, 40D and now 70D.... all three have the same size sensors. All three allow an EF-S lens to be mounted. And a 10-22mm focal length zoom will "behave" identically on all three...

Re: What Macro lens?

Like this one?

https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5017/5453385847_10a2a40bec.jpg

Over the years I've had several Tamron 90mm Macros. The lens in the pic above showed up in a local secondhand shop, like...

Re: What Macro lens?

Nope. It's a one-way street. The Canon mount is specifically designed to allow many different brands of lenses to be used on it.... The Nikon is one of many that adapts well to Canon. But not the...

Re: Bare minimum camera for getting started with portraits.

You've already got everything you really need...

Keep your 20D and use the 50/1.4 and 85/1.8 lenses you've got. Those are a great combo for portraiture. If you want to make larger prints and/or do...

Re: First reasonably priced new lenses?

I'd just go ahead and get the 10-22mm... it's an excellent lens. I doubt the 10-18mm will be replacing it, just offering STM for video and IS for those who think they need it on an ultrawide.

The...

Re: 7d and CF card speeds

Sandisk recommends their 60MB/s memory cards in your choice of sizes.

http://pct1.sandisk.com/DeviceList.aspx?mid=1002&dtid=7&hdnSiteID=1

Any faster than 60MB/s is likely to be wasted on the 7D,...

Re: Any thoughts about my new vintage gear?

Heck, at least it a try, before you go shopping for more lenses. It might be fine. You will need an M42 > EOS adapter, regardless.... that can be used on any of these lenses, or others you pick up in...

Re: turn off IS when removing lens from camera?

Bingo! We have a winner.

Not long ago I bought a Thermos and found a printed note inside, saying that it wasn't intended for hot liquids that might be cause injuries.... It's a frickin' THERMOS,...

With one exception, the Canon 100mm lenses are the only lenses shorter than 150mm on this list that can optionally and easily be fitted with tripod mounting rings (the 100/2.8 USM uses Tripod Ring B...

Due to the "active matrix/transmissive LCD" focus screen, the 7D cannot light up the individual active AF point. Instead it flashes the entire display red. But it can be set to only display the...

Re: Ideal lens for canon 70D

You should note that the Rokinon lenses (also sold under Bower, Samyang, Vivitar and some other brand names) are manual focus and manual aperture only. Slower to work with, but might be fine for some...

Re: High speed sync on pop-up flash?

Built-in flashes suck.

They're in the worst possible place for redeye and ugly shadows.

They are vastly underpowered and don't give near as broad coverage as an accessory flash, yet they rapidly...

Re: Battery grip for 6D

I agree with several responses that suggest it's best to stick with the OEM grip. I don't have 6d but have seen too many issues with off-brand grips on various models. I've used Canon OEM on at least...

Re: Problem using a Sigma lens on my EOS 700D

Be aware that when you are using the viewfinder based focusing system, that's completely different from the AF in "Live View" mode (i.e., the LCD screen).

Viewfinder uses an array of AF sensors...

Re: Macro help, lens or extension?

You can pick up a set of macro extension tubes for around $75 (the better Zeikos with metal mounts or Opteka, both of which have the electronic contacts to support both AF and aperture control)....

Re: Question for the experts

Yeah, all the 70-200s have USM. The earlier 80-200/2.8 didn't have USM, but it's also not white.

That does look like a good deal. A quick search on eBay, it looks like the 70-200/2.8 non-IS in good...

Re: Need advice on a uwa for either 5D or crop

This... It's a very good lens. The 10-22mm is a very well corrected ultra wide without such strong distortions as the insanely wide Sigma 8-16mm.

The full frame options are all going to be larger,...

Re: where can I purchased canon extender adapter

Forget about combining the 2Xs. With your 400mm lens and 5DIII, that will only give you the equivalent of 1600mm.

First, get a 70D or 7D or one of the other 18MP APS-C crop cameras....

Then stack...

Re: Thinking of Upgrading ... Opinions

Seriously consider the 70D upgrade.... you should be able to get acceptible images at least one stop higher ISO than you use right now on your 50D. BTW, 50D is a fine camera, I'm not knocking it (and...

Re: 5D3 cropped to 7D sensor size???

Another way of calculating it....

24mm x 36mm = 864 square mm

15mm x 22mm = 330 square mm

So a crop sensor camera's image area is approx. 38% of that of a full frame sensor camera's (330 / 864 =...

Re: Crop Sensor Portrait

On a crop sensor camera, my main portrait lenses are:

50/1.4 and 85/1.8 primes, 24-70/2.8 zoom.

I am currently experimenting with a Tamron SP 60mm f2 macro lens, too. (I'll use it when I am not...

Re: 7DII delay reported

Their rumor-based camera specs really don't show very much change from the current 7D.

The main diffs...

- Different sensor (the 20MP ala 70D... no surprise there)
- "Touch screen"... well, maybe,...

Re: 5d2 or 70d? what would you choose?

For action/sports shots with the kids, the 70D is a better choice. It's AF system, frame rate, and the "extra reach" of a crop camera are better for that purpose.

The 70D has a 19 point AF system,...
