Re: Equine/canine event photography - lens recommendations

I shoot a lot of equestrian events...

The majority of the time I shoot with a pair of 7Ds... with a 70-200 on one and a 300mm on the other. When shooting dressage, it's not possible to move around...

Re: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM Lens

All five of the Canon 70-200s are top notch, tough, workhorse lenses.

The 70-200/2.8 IS Mark II is tops... fast and accurate focus, very sharp, 4 stop IS.

The 70-200/4 IS is the next sharpest......

Re: Does lens age matter?

It depends upon the lens... some lenses have seen "silent upgrades" over the years. Others haven't.

AFAIK, the 70-200/4L selling new today is identical to what has been sold since it was introduced...

Re: Macro Lens

Keep in mind that the Canon 100L's IS is a hybrid type, specially developed for macro use.

Canon themselves don't claim that the 100L's IS is worth more than approx. 1 stop assistance at...

Re: Front lens cap scratch element???

Try a "lens pen". Those are often the best way to polish a lens.

Re: what cable shutter release i need for canon 5d mk3

Yes, RS-80N3 will work.

You also can use TC-80N3...

This can simply be used as a remote switch... but also can act as a self-timer delay, an intervalometer (time lapse photography), and for time...

Re: Is My Auto Focus Broken?

Yep, chances are that you have the wrong focus mode selected....

Re: Canon officially announces the 7D Mark II

No... read it more carefully. What it says is that the original LP-E6 will work in the 7DII and new BG-E16 grip.... I.e., that the camera and grip are backward compatible. It doesn't say the new...

Re: Canon officially announces the 7D Mark II

Like Canon's other more pro-oriented cameras, it will use a separate WFT module that gives about 10X the range and better performance than built-in WiFi.

Camera also would need to be more plasticky...

Re: why is Canon considered to have bad dynamic range?

This is correct.

It's not that Canon is "bad"... It's that some other manufacturers have tweaked their sensors, processors and software algorithms to be up to approx. 2 stops bit better at...

Re: How flat should flat be?

SOOC JPEGs have all kinds of tweaking done to them, based upon the settings of the camera.

RAW have no tweaking done... you have to do that in post-processing. Some softwares used to view and...

Re: Canon 60D focusing issue- is it me or the camera?

I agree that some of the problem is using f1.8... stop down a bit for better results.

But I think more of an issue is the lens itself. First, the EF 50/1.8 is simply not at it's sharpest wide...

Re: Does anyone have sample RAWs from very sharp lenses?

[QUOTE=bratkinson;17138619]One of the unexpected downsides of super sharpness is that I sometimes have to decide whether or not I want to 'display' or print a photo that clearly shows detail such as...

Re: Will 24mm be wide enough

That will be a good solution.

I was going to recommend the EF 20/2.8 USM... it's a good lens and uses 72mm filters. I wouldn't be without mine, 24mm often just isn't wide enough.

Re: Long Exposure Problems

If the results are noisy, you also might try Long Exposure Noise Reduction, which you'll have to turn on in the menu.

If you do use LENR, keep in mind how it works. People tend to freak out and...

Re: Where can I get tiny screws for my lenses?

Contact Canon... They'll sell you the correct screws. It's easier if you can identify them by part number, from the spare parts catalog. But even if you don't have that, they may be able to help you...

Re: How about a new 500mm from Tamron

Sigma makes 300/2.8, 500/4.5 and 800/5.6 lenses... they sell for $3400, $5000, and $6600 respectively. Special order and they don't have image stabilization.

Re: Which lend work weel with canon 70D at wedding ceremony

A 24-70/2.8 is an excellent choice for wedding photography. It's in most wedding photog's camera bags. Actually I prefer it on a crop camera such as your 70D, instead of full frame, and I'd opt for...

Re: Which is better

7D with 70-200, 70-300 or 100-400.

How do you like hand holding the 300/2.8 on your 6D?

With 7D you get essentially the same results with a 200/2.8.

I use a pair of 7Ds, typically with 70-200...

Re: "Affordable" Canon brand long lenses for full-sided soccer

The Canon 100-400 would be a good choice for daytime games. It has fast USM focus and is reasonably sharp throughout it's range. Plus it has IS for better handheld shots. It is a rather unusual...

Re: Can these vintage lenses be mounted on my 700D/T5i with an adapter?

Re: Anyone have a 6D & Rebel, and willing/able to post some comparison shots?

Dunno what Rebel you are using now... but the T2i, T3i, T4i, T5i, SL1 and T5 all use pretty much the same 18MP sensor as the 60D and 7D. The T1i and 50D aren't all that different, with their 15MP...
