Hehehe, Im buying a new 243 with Sherman Flick Plus fork and Primo hollowbite cranks.

Oh and for the second picture I wanted him to look dark and have the landing bright.

Any comments of how I can improve my Biking photos for next time besides the lighting?

- pick up some bmx mags, study them

- unless its a massive gap and you are at a lower angle with a nice blue sky in front of you to expose for and a going wide (makes the rider look high), never shoot the riders back

get wide, get close, generally low

The reason I shot from his back in the first picture is just to see where he took off and where he is landing. I also did it so you could see the beautiful waterfront here on Lake Nippising.

Personally I like the effect.

the effect doesnt work in the shot though...open your aperture, blur that background out

These aren't really working for me either...

I can't see the rider's face in any of the shots
I can't see the bike very well in any of the shots (in fact there's no bike in #3)
The DOF is so large that I'm seeing landscape shots rather than biking pics
The lighting is crying out for fill-in flash, but there isn't any
I'm not getting any sense of height or the dynamics of the sport through the images

Some suggestions to improve...

Work on your exposures - use fill-in flash to balance foreground and background or shoot at a different time of day or at a different location
As blinking8s said, get low, get close - show some height
Use a slower shutter speed with flash to show some bike dynamics and motion
If you're looking to make the environment part of the final image, then work on your composition and watch your backgrounds so the rider still stands out

Good luck with your next shoot.
