Default Who can explain the Super Bowl to me?

I live in South Africa, if you're looking at a map with the States in the middle, I'm due South South East at the bottom of Africa.

Anyway, I don't understand NFL. Is it really just a bunch of Ivy League rejections what dance about on the pitch wearing charcoal on their faces waiting for someone to throw the ball to them?

It appears there isn't even a hoo hah when a touchdown occurs. No dramatic dive over the line or anything.

You can see I'm a Football Noob.

Well, if you're simply going to be dismissive about the sport (despite not understanding it at all) then there's not much point in trying to explain anything, is there?

Jay, no coffee today?

It's my sense of humour, but yes I sincerely want to understand.

What is the purpose, or objective, of any game? What is the purpose of soccer/ futbol? what is the meaning of life? If you still do not understand, Google it, that is if your area allows Google?

Like most things in the US, it's essentially a bunch of overly-wealthy investors promoting something of minimal value as if it were the holy grail. Even though the teams are not selected from our area, we have been conditioned to feel unfettered allegiance to colors and a logo, regardless of who is wearing them.

Just enough hard bumps to make the audience feel as if they are watching a real event and enough athletes' money involved to discourage most American kids from trying to achieve wealth by studying and working hard.

As my brother commented, the great national distraction. Few Americans know where we are fighting or what we are fighting for but most Americans know the life story of every player on that grass field. Three hours of concentrated attention by the whole country just for sheer entertainment value. Super Bowl is the ultimate distraction. You want to know real football? 22 fit men on a grass field, or on the beach, each one determined to walk away as a winner, several knowing that they'll be leaving hurt.

It's a mans game. Basically everything Soccer isn't. For example, in Football they need lots of protective gear, and even with it there are often serious injuries. In soccer, you have a bunch of faeries running around a field who immediately fall to the ground, broken, at a mere tap on the shoulder by an opposing player.

But regardless, baseball is better than both.

Not too certain if I detect sarcasm on that statement, but I will beg to differ none the less! My 10 year old loves soccer and kicks at at it, and for being 60lbs and about normal height for an American of Mexican decent with an Asian mother, he can tough with the over sized over weight player that play street style!
He has been kicked, shoved, punched, and all forms of intentional harm, and yet he still gets up a goes better than most of today's real "men"! Shiz yeah it scares his mother to death, but even she believes he can survive! After all I don't intend to raise a pansy, and I don't take kindly to helicoptering my boy, at the same time, I teach virtues always! It is way too sad that today's parents teach their children to give up, play street, and disregard all rules! As far as I am concerned any sport is worthy, as long as folks play fair, which doesn't seem fashionable today!! Oh, and I would be careful not to be too vocal about calling over 1 billion soccer lovers faeries, as you put it.

A man's game? Try rugby, which is essentially American Football (that's where American Football came from) but without protective gear!

Are you for real dude?
Have you ever played soccer?

Only because girls in the US are in general better soccer players than boys (probably because boys have other options like football) doesnt mean its a sport for sissies.

Try putting some cleats on and go play some soccer with people who are really into it. Then report back.

also, apparently you missed the pregame interview yesterday where aaron rodgers practically stated that the giants faked several defensive injuries to slow down green bay's hurry-up offense in their playoff match.
