Default 22 years later - I'm a dad again

G'day clan! Here we go.

Born 11 weeks premature at just 1.47kg, here is our little Daniel at one, two and three weeks old, having a quick break off all the breathing tubes attached to his face. Sorry the first one was taken through thick perspex, so slightly fuzzy.

Still in intensive care, he's now nearly four weeks old and doing pretty well. He's on full feeds, putting on weight and has been off the breathing apparatus for over ten days now. A good lookin' little bloke to boot!

It's been nearly 22 years since I was a dad the first time and I can tell you that this time around, it is a totally different experience.
He's just passed his third week and moving up in the bays at ICU. He had a bit of a rough trot last Saturday and again earlier this week, but seems fine today. It's still a very delicate time yet, so he won't be home for a few weeks.

I can't wait to get him out bush with the wildlife and rugged country, but first things first I suppose.

Baz.

Always a worry mate, but I know he will be alright.

What a trooper he is. Very nice series of photos. One piece of advice I received when leaving the hospital with our preemie (30 yrs ago) was "don't buy too many boxes of preemie diapers, they grow out of them so fast". And they do. We started out having to cut the preemie diapers in half to make them fit, but didn't need too many boxes before he was into regular diapers.

My piece of advice: love your kids and hold them dear. They grow up so fast.

What an amazing boy! It looks like he's starting to fill out, that's wonderful! Probably close to 2 more months until he can come home?
My "little" brother (almost 14 years younger) was born at 26w1d, 2 1/4 pounds (1.02kg), and is now a strapping 18 year old man, and will be graduating high school in just over a month.

Thanks for the story and photos.
Heres wishing you and your family health a luck for the present and future.

...You still have time to go back to the gym and get ready for him.
