Default Ogunquit Maine and surrounding area tips

Posted this in POTN members forum, thought this maight be a better loacation....

We're heading to Ogunquit Maine for a couple of nights this weekend and wondered if anybody could point me towards some known birding or wildlife locations? We generally drive the coast a bit and stop where we like, sometimes catching Egrets or Heron in the marshes, but also realize there are specific destinations for birding.

Would the Rachel Carson NWR merit a visit? We're probably thinking within an hours drive or so from Ogunquit.

We might stop by the Carter Fields rookery in North Andover en route to Ogunquit, although the lighting won't be the best.

Any help is greatly appreciated. We'll enjoy exploring in any case, but would hate to find out that we were one wrong (or right) turn away from an Osprey fishing grounds or something of the sort.

I know there is an island in Maine (Machias Seal Island) that has Atlantic Puffin.
you need to make an appointment to get onto it but its well worth it.

Thanks Jeremy. We actually did that trip last July. It's a hike, but you're right, an unforgettable experience.

Time is tight this trip, so shooting might end up low on the priority list.
