Default NHRA Nationals

This is the first year I will be go out with a real digital camera and get some go shots of the funny cars going 300 mph. I will be using a monopod to steady my camera, but my question is what mode and speed should I shot at? My main interest in photograph is portraits. So this will be out my league even as a begginer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

what type of accesss will you be getting? Pits? photo pass? or just stands as a spectator? do you want panning shots or stopped motion stuff? Stopped motion can look good if you do it right (wheel stands and such).

I will be in general admission, but I will be able to get along the fence and at the starting line. I want to stop action mainly and maybe try panning.

Yea... the nice thing about any NHRA event is that any fan has pretty much full access. Good luck with the photos, extrememc.

I'm going in September to NHRA to photograph also. Any tips would be greatly appreaciated. I suppose going to a regular Saturday locals drag race would do wonders as practice.
