Default We had a lightning storm last night...

And I managed to capture my first ever lightning pics. What a rush. Had to shoot through the glass of my bedroom window, with hands resting on the window ledge.(tripod and monopod were in car and it was raining too hard to run for it. C & C welcome. Trevor

this second shot I was angled up in the attempt to get cloud to cloud lightning, instead it came to the ground again.

Loud bangings that woke me up last night too.
These are very good lightening shots Trevor. The brightness of the fork shows the power of these strikes, well done.

Second one is stunning, love the sky and brightness of the lightning strike. Great pictures.

Hey, thanks for the comments. As for settings, I was using my 28-80 set at about 35mm(meant to set it at 28 but since I was leaning the lens on my opposite arm I must have twisted the lens a bit.iso was set at 800 just because thats the last place i had it set. I set it to bulb and once i noticed where the most activity was I held the shutter for up to a count of 30. If I had lightning sooner I would release the shutter. If it was a weak flash, I would sometimes hold the shutter for the 30 count to try and get a second strike in the same frame.Sometimes you get lucky and get two strikes at same time. Sorry if this all sounds haphazzard, but I was falling asleep in the basement and noticed the storm on my way up to bed, thus the 800 iso and the 35 mm instead of 28 , no tripod etc.

Biggest thing is patience and when reviewing the pics, dont automatically erase any that look over exposed. My pic with the big bolt on the right was really hot. you could just make out a brighter line where the bolt was. So in raw shooter ess. I slid the exposure slider to bring the pic back. Sure glad I didnt toss that pic. Hope this helps, sorry to be long winded.
