Ahaha... sorry mate not really I don't know enough about it myself!

WB and exposure were probably my biggest hassles, then i just had to content with keeping people in my frame who insisted on moving all the time! The nerve

I was shooting with my 70-200 from right on the side, with my 20D. So i am not sure if it would be long enough from the stands. I have never tried it however. Over here in Aus (not exactly the land of winter sports), we have nets around the rink, not plexiglass, so i think it would keep focusing on the nets from that sort of distance.

Thanks! Yeah i noticed the red cast. WB was my biggest issue.

Thanks. The timing was more chance than anything I admit...

Thanks for looking.

You should be able to guess easy enuff given the location

Blackburn Hawks vs Sheffield Spartans.. Its only 15-20 minutes drive to the arena.. Taking wife and kids who also never been.

Don't know what to do.. I have been told no problem taking pics from the seats.. I don't even know if the angle will be good enough to get over the glass. Do they have photo areas?

From the seats will I get anything with 70-200 ?

PS just looked through yours properly... How impressed am I had glanced before but had a proper look... Your obviously on the bench area.. have you ever bene to blackburn arena?

To be honest mate I havent shot in Blackburn Im only guessing here but be prepared to get into the ISO 1600 territory.

Im not a big fan of shooting from the seats I do prefer to be on the bench lots more choice of style of pics and emotions, facial expressions. Warm ups will start 40 mins before face offs and are a great chance to get some good shots they last 20 mins.

I have a feeling Blackburn may well welcome a good snapper at games Im not sure they have one. Always worth asking but you might just get a chance on the bench.

Also be impressed by the speed of the game this is the third tieir of UK hockey, bit like the Vauxhall Conference, so although it will seem quick to a newbie, in the whole scheme of things its about 25% pace....but thats 90% quicker than football hahaha

Good luck if you use canon AWB will do a great job and dont forget to compensate 2 thirds a stop to allow for the ice....Im looking forward to seeing the results!

So ok with auto white balance? do you meter off anything? shooting manual I usual get a reading off the grass.. I kinda guessed iso 1600 would be the case... 2.8 and will probably start at 1/320 and chimp

There is someone who seems to do it regular for the blackburn team.. (http://www.natark.co.uk/Hockey.htm) I have emailed him as a matter of manners but theres been no response as yet.

I will try and get early enough for warmups so I can at least test a few settings... ta

if you get 1/320 then Merry Xmas mate! haha

All I would say is get plenty of light in its easy to get dirty murky pics indoors, get lots of light in, or as much as you can.

And remember if you dont ask for shooters permission you wont get it, chances are pro kit, looking a pro you might be surprised with answer!

And remember if you do get rinkside with no plexi dont be a hero!....Pucks really do hurt, but not as much as stick blades!
