Default S2 and filters

Sorry if this has been explained before, but I did try looking. I just picked up the camera and know of the 52 and 58mm tube extensions for the camera but was wondering how filters and vignetting worked.

I have more than a few 77mm Nikon filters and would need to purchase step up rings for the S2....but would the 52 or 58mm be better to handle them as far as vignetting and such? Any and all information is appreciated.

Thanks, madmmac.....1st Post!!!

I have a 52mm adaptor on my S2, and I get a bit of vignetting when shooting at the wide end. I'm not sure about the 58mm, but you do get a bit of it with the 52mm.

Hmmm....I've never noticed any vignetting with my 52mm set up. Maybe I should go and look over them better! LOL!! Did you order your setup from Lensmate Jason?
Anyone else with the 52mm setup from Lensmate notice some vignetting?

I have both 52 and 58 - both from Lensmate and no vignetting for me.

I've just taken the trusty S2 to Disney in Orlando for a week's vacation. After shunning it for a year while I was learning the ropes on the Rebel XT, it was good to have it back in hand again.

My adaptor is from fotodiox, but I think they are all the same dimensionally.

But now that I think of it, whenever I have the adaptor on my S2 I also have the lens hood on it. I'm sure that extra little bit of length from the hood could be the cause. I will have to try shooting without the hood on to see if I get any vignetting.

I have the 58 setup and have had no vignetting, but I would be worried that the 77mm filters would cause shadows when you use the flash.

Good point. What is the size of the standard hood?

Thanks, madmmac
