Hi,
This is my brand new idea Swallows - fast, agile, beautiful birds and excellent flyers. Really hard to catch! Each one of you, who want to add some nice shots of these birds to this thread, is more than welcome. All shot details are in Exifs

Hey Andy, those are nice. I've never had much lock getting them in that kind of flight, they are just too fast for me.
I have a couple that are my favorites, although the quality could be better. ![]() ![]()

He was just flutttering his wings. They do that a lot for some reason. After this shot, he started to pick up straws to use in nestbuilding.

These pictures are all great. One time I saw some swallows nesting under a bridge over a stream and stopped to try for some shots.
I couldn't focus on any of them so I locked the focus somewhere I thought might be in range and set the camera on burst mode and sort of waved the it around. They were flying everywhere but I didn't get any usable images at all. good pics. Bob

Nice shots of the swallows...the translucent appearance of the wings caused by the back lighting of the second shot is great.

"Really hard to catch". You're not kidding there!! Yours are very nice indeed. Well done.
These are a few of my favourite attempts..... 1. Great sense of motion, shame I just missed out on getting him in focus (at 400mm mind you). ![]() 2. Attempted to get a shot of this guy catching insects off the water. ![]() 3. A rare moment where these two were relaxing. ![]()

Thanks Dale for sharing,
Yeah, I like the second one really, I know how hard is to cache one of this in a viewfinder. I like as well this static one, you are right that is rare when these are sitting still Here some more of mine, what I noticed is a common procedure to crop pictures a bit so I did this time.

Swallows are some of the more entertaining birds to watch! I like your second shot with the light shining through the feathers. Here's a couple of shots I took last year in the in-laws' barn.

Great Idea and shots Andy. Here are my first contributions: Bank Swallows. They were coming in over my shoulder so I really couldn't tell when they were arriving except for the looks of the young.
All taken with the Bigma (some handheld) and Fill Flash. Cropped from 40-70% of full frame. 1. Mom arrives ![]() 2. Part of the Family ![]() 3. Dad Arrives ![]() 4. Whoa!!!! Pile up! Pile up! ![]() |
