Unhappy Ok, I'm Bummed Out!

The United Air Temp technician just left my house. He was here for a routine maintenance service call on the furance. Oops...cracked heat exchanger...need a new furance Air compressor is 23 years old...opps needs replacing.

So, he left just now with an order for a new furance and a new a/c system...for $8,400.00

Do you realize what I could have bought at B+H for $8,400!

I hear ya........ 2 years ago the furnace in my rental died, last year my pellet stove died. If eather one of those had held off for just a little bit my brand new Canon 5D would be at least a year old right now. And we would be half way through all the stupid question I am about to ask

Jim, take heart in your situation. How about the following that I'm experiencing right now:
My daughter (not the one from the "beautiful hair thread," has an eating disorder and a problem with drugs. She finally agreed to inpatient rehab. We drove to Philadelphia today, she was admitted, but then my "excellent" medical insurance determined they would not pay. It's ONLY going to cost $900 per day for approximately a 30 day stay. We've already lost the first appeal.

Mark,

I am very sorry to hear about your daughter. My neice is undergoing a similar program. Her parents chose to put into a christian based program...six months long with zero tolerance for breaking the rules. She has drug related legal issues as well...the judge will put her on probation if she successfully completes the course. She is 3 of 6 months into the program now. It is costing my wife's brother a huge amount.

I will keep your daughter in my thoughts and prayers. Raising kids is the hardest thing I have ever done. We lead by example, teach, mentor, and hope for the best. Your daughter will get through this and so will you.

Note: as for my furnance...I had planned on bathroom upgrades this year using my bonus...looks like one of three will have to wait to 2009 and the furance plus a/c gets done first. My service tech told me that I was lucky...I got 23 years out of the a/c and 20 from the furnance...both well beyond their expected life.
