Default Going to New York (Manhattan) for a week, where to shop?

Hey New Yorkers.

I am going to Manhattan for a week at the end of December. I think I will be picking up a new lens while I am down there.
Can anyone point me to a few websites that sell camera stuff in that general area? I would like to research their pricing, maybe call a few places and then just stop in on my way past while I am there.

Thanks in advance.

Hi -

Two well known photo stores in NYC are Adorama on 18th St. (www.adorama.com) and B&H PHoto on 34th ST & 9th Ave. (bhphotovideo.com).

(edit: just as a warning, they're closed on Saturdays)

There is also a Camera Land on Lexington Ave. & 51st or 52nd St., but I'd go with Adorama or B&H Photo first. And stay away from the computer/electronic/photo stores on 5th Ave and on Broadway - they're way overpriced!

To Be honest I have not even gone to the B&H website up until now, I know how everyone raves about it so I know its good, but I know very little about the locations and the store itself

My wife has allowed me to replace my 18-55mm kit lens with the Tamron 28-70mm Di XR lens (hopefully this is a mutually agreeable lens with everyone here LOL ) and at B&H it is over 200 dollars cheaper than it is here at home so I finally have an excuse to really search for the best deal.

Thanks for the input I knew I can always count on you guys.

ChrisN, how about you smuggle the camera gear from the USA to Canada, and then you smuggle flu vaccine from Canada to the USA?

Doesn't that sound like a deal?

I won't have to smuggle the camera equipment home. I will have had it with me all along, if you get me. LOL

as for the flu shots. hmmm. is there a place I can leave them that you will find them? ha
