Default Any Good Alaska Photo Tours/Workshops???

I'd like to go to Alaska this summer, but don't want to do the normal bus tour thing. Do you have any suggestions for a good photo tour or workshop?

Thanks.

Check out the ads in Outdoor Photographer magazine.

Alternatively, rent an RV and do your own personal tour.

Get a hold of a copy of Alaska Magazine or Milepost; they're loading with non-bus tours, maps, trails, activities, et al....

I'm heading up to Anchorage at the end of June to visit some friends, and there's a TON of activities.

Horse, ATV, kayak, bike, hiking, cruise ship, sailboat, camping tours.....

I'll be doing a horseback tour, a 2-3 day ATV camping trip, whale watch, then we're hopping in their RV and going north to get "lost"...helps to have natives with ya

Enjoy......you can't go wrong!!!!!

p.s. I just did a Google™ on "Alaska photography tour" and got a ton of hits....

Mind you, some are expensive ($1000 + ), but I do remember running across a couple of photo tours that were in "the hundreds."

Sorry I don't have links as I'm not pursuing "formal" photo tours.....

We did a helicopter fly up to a glacier and dog sled around for a while thingy. The chopper that flew us up wouldn't start so they had to send a "rescue" chopper up for us. We got some extra time with the dog sleds. It was pretty cool, but expensive.

I also forgot to mention the Alaskan railways.

Anything from short 1 day tours to 10+ days from Anchorage going south.

We had also explored going to Dutch Harbor (Unalaska, AK) by boat. There's a ferry that ports out of Homer, and Alaska Air flys out infrequently.

That chopper idea sounds sweet!

I read a review years ago of someone who did the small boat cruise up the inland passage. Boat was able to nose ashore, then they'd spend the day ashore. Was pricey, but very personal. Had a naturalist on board, so evenings where slide shows, not cabarets. But good food, like minded souls, and great photography. Think it was about a 75 person boat. I priced it at that time, and was about 2x what the same mega cruise boat was.
