Default buying the 5Dmk2

well know you got the storage that counts.

Pretec makes 64gb and 100gb compact flash cards.

Now this is some serious storage, although I think I would prefer a number of smaller cards just in case of corruption or manufacturing faults.

yes and no. the larger mp we get means we need larger storage to take the same amount. which means you have to buy more. it starting to sound like a cunning plan for companys to make us spend more money.

that's it I am not buying the 5dmk2

Jeeps. I'd worry too about the loss of one card though. Still impressive though.

It would probably be great for the new 5d's hd video though... no?

I've not looked into the video aspect of the 5D MkII, however, that 100GB should hold close to 400 RAW images from the 5D MkII - That's a lot of images, but I can see the point you're making, especially if you have a number of lower capacity cards at lets say, 2GB, which would hold less than 80 images.

Of course, I may have mucked up my maths here and could be wrong.

between you and me, I am not going to do any maths. You get the idea and that what is what counts.

Only 400...s I'd have to get that or suck it up with affordable 16GB cards. Although I think if you're splurging on on the MkII you can afford some more cards.

Dirt cheap, when you consider that the first 3GB cards ever offered were about 10x that cost;

Not to mention the $15,000 pricetag on the first 12GB cards!

Incidentally, I find the capacity increases of these cards astounding; I made this little graph based on the Pretec annoucements on DP, capacity versus time (measured in months after august '99).

Did you mean to say 4000 instead of 400? You should be able to get close to 400 on an 8GB card.

Indeed, it should have been 4000 RAW images if they are around 25.8Mb per image - Whoops.
