Default M31 - 6th Jan 2009

From the night before last. Blimey it was a cold one at -8C by the time I packed in. First time I have ever experienced ice on the scopes themselves! Brightish moon in the wrong place led to some awkward gradients.

20 x 6 minute subs with Tak FSQ85/SXM25C guided W/O ZS70/Lodestar on EQ6 using PHD. Stacked in DSS and processed with PixInsight.

I think the darker circles are down to condensation and then icing on the CCD itself so not easy to deal with by taking flats.

Still a lovely shot Chris. I've not even contemplated going out lately, what with these arctic temperatures. Shame really, because a couple of times I've woken in the middle of the night or the early hours and they've been the clearest skies I've seen since I moved to my semi-rural dark site two and a bit years ago.

That is a superb shot. We had a clear night a couple of nights ago, but it was very cold. Guess I am going to have to toughen up if I want to play with the big boys.

Great shot Chris, getting some nice detail in the outer lanes. This is one of those objects that's good to keep adding time to. For me the three hour mark was when things really started to become well resolved.
