I was set up for ducks yesterday morning. I looked up across the marsh, and what was on the other side but a moose - what a surprise!
These images were taken from about 200 yards away, so even at 800mm effective focal length, quite a bit of cropping has been done here. I was just happy to see her.
From this blind I've also seen black bear, elk, beaver, whitetail deer, and muskrats.
Today another moose walked the same beat. Today's moose did not have the shedding issues this one had - it had a nice, dark, full coat.
I now know where I can set up to get much, much closer images or these guys as they either emerge from the trees or return to them. However, it'll be hard to give up my opportunities with ducks and grouse. It's quite difficult to know what to go shoot in the mornings because there are just so many good opportunities awaiting. Now if there was a trophy caliber bull moose whose antlers ware already grown it'd be a no-brainer!
