Question Photo batching guidelines appreciated

I really am very new at this but and I need some guidance please.
I am not very comfortable with creating actions, silly I know but I am working to get over it.
I have quite a few pictures and I sorta understand how to create an action to ie save for web and change dimensions.
What I am finding difficulty with is creating a new name for each.

Photoshop Elements seems to batch a little easier than Photoshop, or am I missing a step?
Any assistance is gratefully appreciated
Thank you

teri

What is it you are trying to do? Resize and save at a web friendly size is what I am guessing.

I use a different program for this - Google's Picasa software. You can export lots of photos all at once and set the size you want them to save as (the originals are not affected). It's brilliant and free and very easy to use. It will even watermark the photos if you want it to.

thanks.. i tried that and it is nice ...it is the renaming them that is giving me fits.....How can I just get Picasa to rename my files in the order that they exist in the album, regardless of the directory they are in?
it seems Adobe would have that as a basic feature!

It is true that renaming images can be bothersome and an action won't really help (imho) as you want each name unique. True?

Why not keep the image name as is, and do the rest as an action ie: size and dimension? What do you do about portrait or landscape images?
