When I uploaded photographs from card (SanDisk 4GB) I found I have missing photo's, numbers jump from 3595 to 3598 etc.Lost about 6 in total which is a pain because 3 were part of panorama's! Using Smart Recovery at the mo to try and find them! Does this mean my card is possibly corrupted? It's never happened before!

All I've ever used is Sandisk and I've never had a problem.

It's not like I've used hundreds and hundreds of cards but I am an engineer who routinely designs SD and CF cards into systems and I have never had a problem short of Q? SD cards not reading properly on a particular compute platform. Never had a problem with Sandisk. That's not to say they won't fail but I haven't seen it yet. What is the file traffic count on that card? All media cards feature wear leveling to ensure an even distribution of data across all flash pages. Even so the pages are guaranteed for 10k writes.
Could there be any reason the camera buffer overflowed? What is the camera and card? I would definitely use another card and try some testing with the card installed in your computer. The only other thing I can say is if a shot is critical make sure it was captured. |

Thanks for response, much appreciated! Ran recovery disc but they don't appear to be on card.Camera used is the 5D,Card, 4GB SanDisk Extreme111, 3700 photos taken with it and I usually just delete images.Should I be formatting card in camera after each shoot?

I don't and I don't have problems though I am NOT generating high traffic counts to the cards I use.

Deleting the images allows the potential for directory structure corruption. Formatting the card gives it new life. I always do an in-camera format as soon as I put the card back in. Every so often I do a full format on the computer as well...
