Default NFL Photo Pass

Just scored a pass for the upcoming Steelers/Bengals game.
My gear is extremely limited and will use this game to test out what I have.
My question is, can someone who has shot NFL games run down what to expect as far as do's and don'ts? When to arrive, interesting angle positions, timing to catch the 'feel' of a game, not necessarily the action.

Thanks in advance.

Hugh

Congrats. How do you score a photo pass to an NFL game?
And won't you need a 400mm f2.8 as well?

Heinz Field.
I do some work for a local Pittsburgh culture magazine and they want some game day shots.
As for the lens, I don't have it but I am just getting my feet wet and want to capture the 'scene' moreso the action on the field (although with what I do have I'll try just the same).

With short lenses I would hang around the end zone or shoot "feature" pics on the sideline. There is so much more than a football game going on out there.

I put a few Florida Georgia shots up for you on Flickr which were all shot at 135mm or less. They're not worthy of submitting to my employer, but are somewhat interesting.

I don't usually concentrate on the end zone, but the last two I shot with at 50mm and flash fill on my way out of the stadium--just so you get the idea.

Hope this helps.

Football sidelines can be dangerous places. Are you ready to accept the risks?

Wow! Must have been one helluva hit. A broken pelvis among other injuries? I am a volunteer firefighter/EMT and we see those types of injuries in serious car crashes.

You'd do well to wander the parking lots pregame and shoot some of the tailgating activities.

Pretty hard core in "The 'Burgh"
