Basically, I just want something a little better then the built in microphone. I do not want to spend more then $150 for it, I just want something I can mount or hold, so I dont pick up IS sounds and have a little more control with wind noise and slightly better sound. These are just for personal movies/clips I do at amusement parks, I don't need anything fancy here. I plan to really just make some type of mounting device (example: duck tape
Something basic, cheap, and with improvement. Last edited by Invertalon : 15th of April 2010 (Thu) at 18:16. |

Here's a good one:
http://www.amazon.com/Azden-High-per...1369399&sr=8-2 I don't have it, but I've researched quite a bit, and for under $100 it's the best you can get. For the $100-$200 range, there are many more options. ![]()

UPDATE:
I have been using my new Azden mike for my vids for about a week now and the sound quality is very impressive. I have used this mike for spoken word performances and rap videos. I am impressed on how well the mic records music, as well as voice from as far as 50- 70 feet away. Well worth the $70 bucks in my opinion. Adorama mixed up a recent order of mines and sent me a $150 Audio Technica stereo mic. Im sending it back because im content with the performance of the cheaper Azden. Looks GREAT on the camera too! Pix taken with a Nikon Cool Pix: ![]() ![]() CS4 Pro Has a mike gain control panel which works nicely when editing my vids. I highly reccomend the Azden.

Yep, but you should capture the sound as loud as you can without clipping to get the best signal-to-noise ratio. Makes the sound post production easier if you have a clean file.

Now another question, will this record in Stereo?
I tried using a cheap mic I had and it was mono only, with no way to change to stereo. Worthless if I cant record stereo. |

I will go up to $150 as a cap, if that opens slightly better options. But it needs to def record stereo, if possible!

I'm not sure if it can record stereo, but I bet it says on the page somewhere.
Rode Videomic is another one Azden has some better mics for more money, check out their site

Yeah, my main thing I really want is ability to get away from the noisy 70-200 IS sound... The Rode Videomic looks good for it's shock mount and farther placement away from the body, but some videos I have seen did not impress me that much (quality wise). Others sounded great, however.
And I did research it seems that it will play stereo, so that is good. |

Well, videomic was used in "Paranormal Activity" (big screen production, made a ton of money), so can't be that bad quality wise. And there's a really, really easy way to get rid of IS noise. Simply use adobe soundbooth (or other sound editing program), and map out the sound from an existing file of the IS sound. Works amazingly actually, including the clicking noises from engaging and disengaging the IS. |

I have cyberlink video editor which can edit out some noises like that as well.. I guess its not a large deal, as long as it is better than it is now.
Also, I have acoustic foam I use for my drum-room which I may be able to rig it under the bottom of the mic between to absorb some more noise. But I will see! So far though, the Videomic is winning for me. But open to more suggestions. Last edited by Invertalon : 15th of April 2010 (Thu) at 21:22. |

I have been reading up all night... And I find with the Rode (both stereo model and the one listed above), due to gain issues with the 5DII and 7D, you get a constant hiss when you record.
Anyway to get good clean audio without spending huge money? |
