Default Barn Owl

Shot a few tonight, but at 500mm I had to use ISO 1600 and they are very grainy, any suggestions how to overcome this, apart from go out earlier

I like this picture - and I wouldn't worry about it being grainy/noisy. It's as you took it. I would like to have seen it a bit darker though.

I like the fact that you made such a tough capture. I don't know much about processing but I'm wondering if you could fix it a bit with photo shop or some other program. Draken and sharpen a bit.

I think he's a tad overexposed. Light-colored subject filling a small percentage of the frame on darker background - That will happen with any kind of auto metering.

Would have been a great shot otherwise, but I don't know what you can recover from this one.

Manual metering with the help of a grey card or white card will help in these situations.

I adjusted the exposure in RAW editor and darkened it a bit, then I sharpened it just a little, I think it's a bit better now

Juz that is a great picture considering the Owls in flight and the light level!
