Is it possible to use the G3 with Cokin filters?
I was thinking of buying a Lensmate and was wondering if I needed to get the 52.49 step ring in order to use Cokin filters. |

I use cokin filters with my G3. I use my set of P size filters. I don't know how well A size would work but my Ps have been working fine.

Turns out I have the "A" size.
Will that work with a stepdown? |

I've used the Cokin A size filters on my G3 using the Canon conversion lens adapter and a 58mm cokin ring with no problems.

Hi Stephen,
I'm puzzled. Here's the scoop: A friend of mine is lending me his Cokin filters with a black hexagonalish object that says Cokin. So do I need to get then: 1. A Canon conversion lens adapter? and 2. A 58mm cokin ring? Or is that black object the 58mm Cokin ring? Thanks for clarifying. |

hi,
no the black thing is the filter holder. what you need to get is: 1) a conversion adapter - you can get either canon's own, or the lensmate from www.lensmateonline.com. advantage of lensmate is that although the actual 52mm adapter is more expensive than canon's by say $5, it works out cheaper as the lens are cheaper by anything between $5 to $20. 2) the cokin adapter ring. this should only be something like $5 or so. get the right one according to whatever size of adapter you buy i.e. 52mm or 58mm. that's it. any more q's, let us know. |

Hi Juggler,
Sounds like Dr. Hasan has you covered. You'll need both a lens adapter (either Canon's or one of the Lensmates) and the appropriate Cokin ring for the adapter's diameter. I was just lucky to have a 58mm adapter ring from one of my old FD lenses which worked nicely with the Canon adapter. I'd recommend that you consider purchasing both the Lensmate adapters. The additional $19 will give you maximum flexibility in terms of both lower filter costs and the ability to use Canon's lenses and close-up adapters. |
