Based on some recent events and discussion this thread is being started for Nikon users to share their thoughts on Nikon gear as well as photos.

This is NOT a place to start a flame war!!!

If you see any evidence of such please use the report post button. Remeber forum rules regarding posting and images. Do not use this thread as a personal gallery.

Can anyone with the 70-200VRII do me a favor?
Take the lens out, don't mount it on a camera. Just take off the rear cap and "wiggle" or shake the lens back and forth and tell me if you hear a sound or feel something moving around.

Nikon claims this is just the "VR mechanism" moving and it's normal.

(Yep, finally a Nikon related post...)

When I shake it gently it quietly rattles in a couple of places.

No I don't got a Nikon :) but after finding out that the photog I most admire on this forum shoots with one I am dying to try one. It's about $285 to rent one from Lensrentals (plus you still have to rent the lens!) but I SOOO want to try it. My question is, what kind of software do you have to have to upload your pictures & can you get a trial version somewhere? Sorry if this is jacking the thread.

So who was the snitch?
There's some good information in the original thread and now it will get lost in the pile.
Nice going...

I use Adobe Bridge, ACR, and Photoshop CS5. I don't use Nikon software.

Thanks. Quietly rattles eh? I wouldn't say mine quietly rattles but I am not sure. I guess I need to go to B&H and check one out.

I copy and paste from cards to a folder using a card reader, and I process using Bridge. Same as with Canon.

Capture NX, View NX trial versions are available, or you can use Photoshop if you have it?

Heh? I thought the thread ran out of room...

Now I need to go grab another speed test result and post it to egg Tim on.

There was really no reason to close the thread. Probably could have been cleaned up. I could have deleted my posts too. Maybe we can ask the Mods to add a link to the original thread in the first post of this thread so at least we can refer to it if needed. There's some good information in there.

Point the lens towards the ground. Take the read cap off, then give it a good shake. Let me know what you hear/feel.

Nick when I shake mine it rattles also and it sounds like it's coming from the rear of the lens.

To be honest the rattling does sound controlled like it is coming from the motor.
