Default Contest #36: Voting (CLOSED)

The first rule of voting. Please please please leave a comment when you vote. This contest really comes alive when people just drop in,say hi and perhaps tell us why they voted for a particular photo. It makes the contest more fun and gives really great feedback for the photographers.

Other stuff:
  • The poll will remain open for 7 days.
  • You can vote for three photos. Your vote will be public. Remember you need to vote for all 3 photos at the same time.
  • Please don't vote for your own photos!
  • As before there will 1st, 2nd and 3rd place positions.
  • No prizes, sorry
  • I will be announcing the names (aliases) of the people who win. Send me a PM if you don't want your name to be announced.
All the photos can be viewed here

I voted for #1, #32 and #13, and that would be the order of preference for me.
#1 sets a very wintry mood, has great perspective and feels cold to the bone. If you've never experiended freeing fog/icestorms, that's for sure what it looks like!
#32 I really like the texture of teh trees and the contrast of teh blue sky and the steam/fog on the water.
#13 I like the light and motion of the blowing snow

#13--Just the essence of winter and an accolade to the photographer for going out on a day like that
#21--Nice composition of a nice area
#23--My favorite shot. Simple and unusual. Doing a nice job shooting an opportunity.

#1 - I would have thought the image of looking down a row of trees into the distance would be cliche by now, but this is my favorite picture. I like the detail in the foreground, the remnants of color in the leaves and ground and the way the scene fades slowly. The trees are all very similar, but the more you look at the picture, the more differences you begin to see.

#29 - The picture really conveys sense of sadness and neglect. I love the undisturbed mound of snow on the top of the tire, but I wonder if a slightly wider crop would have shown it off more.

#32 - I like the contrast between sky, snow and water. It would be interesting see it with more emphasis on the trees, say by moving the shot a little more to the right to get more ice/snow in the foreground and more trees in the frame ,but leaving enough water and sky to still get the color contrasts. Just a thought. I really like the picture.

My choices

#14 - completely different from the rest so it gets my vote

#20 - Absoultely beautiful. Wish I'd been there to shoot it.

#29 - Captures the mood perfectly. I love the feeling of lost childhood. However I would have removed the leaf before I took the photo.

I actually voted a couple of days ago and didn't have the time to comment, so I'm back to give my reasons:

#2 - Love how well the frost was captured. I tend to like pictures that evoke memories and this one reminds me of one my favorite O'Henry short stories.

#9 - This one actually sent a chill through me. I've been outside when the weather begins to change and that first cold winter front moves in.

#18 - This one was difficult, since I'm an advid Pepsi fan, but it reminded me of some of the nicest Santa's ever seen are in the Coca-Cola ads, so this one brought back a nice smile and memory.

This is the first contest I've entered. As I am watching the comments and voting I can tell this can be a real opportunity to learn. Looking forward to the next contest and seeing if I can meet the challenge.

I voted for 23, 1, and 2 in that order.

Lots of good shots, but these 3 stood out.

Keep the comments coming everyone. A reminder that you aren't allowed to vote for your own photos. A couple of people have done this so I have removed the relevant votes.

#1 - I really like the colors in this picture.. the fog also brings a erry aspect to the picture aswell.
#18 - Great capture.. again love the colors and love the snow in the picture. It looks like it's a picture out of a Coca Cola commercial
#32 - Wow great shot. This picture defently captures the essence of winter.
