Hi there, new to the forums. Ive just started a course in photography and need opinions as to the following photograph that I took. Without saying anything about the background of taking this photo: Does the photograph convey an emotion, and if so, which emotion? I just want to be sure what Im seeing is what others are seeing.

Thanks :)

The image doesn't say a great deal to me, I'm afraid. At most it could be a girl sitting on a car she's just bought and is looking pleased but it's hard to say.

I had to shoot a person and his/her car and convey an emotion.

(But it was hard to convey ANY emotion when the sun was shining in their eyes, this was as best as I got, guess I'll have to redo the shot).

why don't you make her sit in the driver seat pretend she was driving and doing a road rage or getting into a car pretending she was in a hurry and that would be alot easier. sitting on top of a car doesn't really do much conveying any type of emotion.

No I'm not a photographer, I just shoot with Canon DSLR with those lenses with red thingy...;)

And this is a beginners thing, nothing fantastic or difficult is expected.

Anyway, does the photo show pride? Dont be too harsh on me, lol. :)

(Pride was one of the suggestions of a type of emotion we could try to show)

Pride would be her leaning on the car as if she were 'too cool for school'. She looks sleepy. My guess is that the sun was in her eyes.

Ok well it looks like I have to get some ideas then. This was just a random spur of the moment thing, not a lot of thought went into it and I guess it shows, haha.

And yes, the sun was majorly in her eyes.

Study photos that you consider to successfully portray said emotion. Study them and figure out why said emotion is successfully communicated. Is it the eyes? The angles of the body? The negative space? Is it the angle? Color...etc.
