Man Jay, i love those shots. I used to work at Tx Stadium for the Cowgirls. One of my best freinds was an E2 fo rseveral NEP trucks. I think he covered a lot of nascar and NFL. These shots take me back to a very fun time that i would never want to visit again. I am sure you know what I mean. Great shots.

Thanks...

Do you know Michael "Mookie" Brandt or Bob Charlap?

FlyingPhotog's words are absolute gold.

I'm interning right now so I am new, but the company that I am working with does all the sets and graphics for Nascar, We've been doing the sprint cup awards for a long while, we just recently did some stuff at the hall of fame in Charlotte and were working for the Richard Petty Driving Experience, shot a bunch of footage in Vegas and Orlando. It blew my mind the first time I got to see the broadcast trucks from HBO. Great shots of Daytona BTW.

My classes started with the non linear cutting because they wanted us to have an understanding and ability to make cuts that mean something rather than the sloppy jumps that you see with some presets and people who throw it all together quick. So, I fully understand why you would not want to go back to the non-digital age. At work we still have 3 large format Sony BETACAMs, they were actually what I was trained on. hehe.

Don't mean to laugh but "Large Format Betacam?"

Oh Man, do I feel old. I actually have 2" experience with the vast majority of my replay work done with 1" machines. I've actually edited 2" tape via the cut/splice method just like movie film. Involved dye to see the sync pulses and a microscope!

NLE is amazing technology but it still comes down to the creativity of the editor whether it's Avid/FC in pre/post production or something we now use in live shows called the EVS. EVS has all but replaced tape as the preferred tool for replays and building highlite packages on the fly (which is what I primarilly did for FOX / NBC / TNT NASCAR.)

Got any of these yet?

I've been "blessed" with eight in my career.

Great work! I've only ever received a single award for my work, I did a music video when I had just graduated from high school that won an international contest, got the video plastered all over the net and on MTV, it was pretty cool. I hope that some day I'll be able to bring home some awards like that!
