Reading these forums so much and listening to everyone's feedback, I have become a much harder critic on myself. Mic in the singers face? Don't post it. Chopped off a piece of the guitar? Don't post it. Etc, etc...

I haven't fully finished processing trhe set yet, but I have a bunch I like and will post my 8. There is 14 up on my site.

I also think I never post the right ones for viewing here. And that I always am nervous posting a similar set that guys like Tim or Tony, etc have also shot. But I have to put myself out there, right?

7 - Maybe I dont love it technically, but I love the capture.

8 - I have a black & White version I like as well, but the colors were so good for this show I may stick to all color.

#4 is nice :)
I like #6 as well.

In this set I see about what I see in Narlus' set: Big stage, lots and lots of lighting and Led walls.
Doesn't necessarily make for great shooting (IMO)

Thanks Rene. I dont know if this is against the rules but I think it points to your comment about the LED walls....

If it is against the rules, feel free to delete.

With such a large stage the tough part for me is bouncing between camera set-ups and using such a big variance of focal lengths. Sometimes you end up just not ready.

I like three also for light color gesture; just not as much facial expression as four or six.

Thanks. My mission was to get him singing without a mic stand in his face for at least one shot. The other shots were in between singing.

i am w/ René; 4 and 6 are my faves, and the extra (7?) you put up is very nice too.

I agree w/ the sentiment that Petty's stage show isn't prone to raw primal rock emotions, but I do appreciate the fact that his lighting allows for separation of performer and background...so many of my shoots don't.

Great photographs! They actually let you bring your camera in to the concert? I went to see the Dukes of September (Donald Fagan, Bozz Scaggs, and Michael McDonald) last week and camera's were strictly forbidden.

By the way... What ever happend to the hat the TP was always famous for wearing? :-)

Thank you.

I shoot for a publication and obtain a press pass to shoot from the pit. This is pretty much standard with most venues and performers. Most sets posted in this section are taken that way, especially for known musical acts.

I'm new to the Concert Forum. How do you guys get so close? Press pass? Knowing the right people? Paid top dollar for seats? How?...

Pay? We'd all be broke!

Most concert photographers are obtaining press passes by shooting for a publication. We are usually allowed to shoot the first 3 songs from the photo pit which is between the front row and stage (take that!...people who paid so much for those seats).

Sometimes you are required to shoot from the soundboard.

Being a tremendous Tom Petty fan, maybe I'm biased, but I absolutely love this set.

Number 4 is money...
