That rock face is known as El-Capitan and the scenic is the Yosemite Valley. To give some idea of the size when standing near the base of El-Capitan climbers look like tiny black dots in the day time (bring binoculars) and little bright lights in the night time. Climbers literally sleep vertically or on horizontal bed shelves attached to the shear face of this formation.

not a great photo, but the haze at 600mm is hard to handle (300mm f4 + 2x). It is also cropped. The thatch building was about 2 miles away, I could barely make it out with the naked eye.
